We just got our first Siberian Husky (after reading TONS of books and forums, etc, we still think he will be a perfect fit!) He comes home the 29th. His birthday is November 17th (the same as my son's birthday, my son is 3!). My husband named him Zatch (after an Anime, apparently, ha!) but it's a cute name and it totally suits him. There's a tiny picture of his face in my icon, but I will have a LOT more when he comes home! We are very excited. Not thrilled about the whole potty training thing, but if I can potty train a 1 1/2 year old boy, I think I can do this! LOL! This is definitely a new journey for us, as we've been in apartments since 2006. We are finally renting a house, with a big backyard for him to run, and my kids and I go on lots of walks (I'm trying (keyword there) to lose weight) so he will be the perfect running partner this summer! Anyway, I found this group on google and I can't wait to learn and share stories! My name is Jessie, btw.

I hope you meant you're bringing your puppy home the 29th of January. A puppy shouldn't be taken away from its mom before 8-10 weeks regardless of them being weaned. 6-8 weeks is a critical part of their socialization that they learn from their mom and littermates.

Konjiki no Gash!!, huh? I have read some of the manga, but never watched the anime. Not my genre! But the name is super cute. If you are planning to bring him home at 6 weeks, I would urge you to encourage the breeder to keep him for at least another 2 (for the reasons Jennet mentioned above). I definitely know how hard it is to wait, but it's in your best interest as their mouthing will be so much worse if they miss those two weeks! Welcome to the forum!

Congrats.. I am in the same boat at you my pupp is coming home jan 5th... The rest of his litter mates are going home today but i askedte breeder to keep him till jan 5th because he will be 8 weeks on the dot then.. Even though i want him soooooo bad lol! I keep hearing they are a lot better behaved and have better social skills... But ive also read about alit of people who do get them at 6 weeks but 8 weeks is better but its your desicon.. Also you said he can be your running partner this summer.. He will still probably be a little to young to be on controlled runs at that point from what i read alot on here.. Im sure other people will chime in and talk more about that... But congrats!!

Thanks you guys!!! I will let her know!!! I am not getting my pup from a breeder, he's from a friend, so she may not know what the appropriate time is! We were supposed to be getting him at 6 weeks. I'm happy as long as he's healthy and don't mind waiting at all! He is already fully on puppy food and no longer nurses, and I think its a common misconception that once they're weaned, they're ready to go! As for the running thing, itll probably be more of a fun playful run at the park sort of thing, not like controlled long-term jogging or anything. Even I don't have the attention span for that. LOL!

I hope your friend will keep the pups longer then It'll definitely be worth it in the long run Nippy puppies are not fun at all Just make sure before bringing your puppy to parks and everything that he has all of his puppy shots, there have been a lot of Parvo outbreaks out there.

The person i got my puppy from wanted him to go home at 6 weeks. I called and we agreed on her keeping him until at least 7 weeks. In my case i would have done 8 weeks but that would have been DEC.22 and i felt like it was just too close to Christmas and would be too stressful. Oakley came home the 16! He has been a joy and such a happy pup. The only thing is he like play a tad rough sometimes. Currently he is curled up next to my tv dead asleep.

Thanks for the tips y'all!!! I will talk to her and see if she will work something out with me. She's having some marital issues and I'm not sure how far it's going to escalate (and its none of my business, lol) but I think that might play a part with why 6 weeks instead of 8+. They all seem very happy, energetic, and have a very good disposition. I went to see them and there was no nipping, struggling, and I'm pretty sure they all like to be held, lol! Like I said, she's not a breeder by any means, just a friend with some great little puppies!!! Mom and Dad dog are AMAZING, so sweet and big and soft!

Oh, and she's done their first shots and their first worming is on Friday, I think! She has all of the records and since she is local, I will continue to go to the same vet office.
