Roo has got this area that has lost it's hair and is a bit raised on her snout. It doesn't seem to hurt her or effect her in any way. She will be going to the vet in a couple weeks for shots, but just thought I'd ask if anyone has seen something like this before. Thanks

I'd get her in sooner, it could be either a simple scrap that got irritated, demodex, ringworm, or something else. All of the above could get worse by the time of you next appt. the dr may do a skin scrap if he/she feels it is mites. Better safe than sry, I'd more spots show up, it could be more expensive if you wait.

ETA: why I suggested the vet visit sooner than later is because it may be contagious to humans.

The vet says it's demodectic mange. Not contagious and should go away on its on. We just have to keep an eye on it and make sure it's not spreading...

Good! At least it isn't anything too serious. Any ivermectin? Or meds at all? Usually it's treated. Hm.. Interesting. Never seen it go away on it's own without some kind of meds. Very interesting. Did the vet mention if the mites were dead or alive during the microscopic examination?

Stark had that when he was a young pup too... I don't think there was an option to just let it go away on it's own (but his mites were alive)... the vet prescribed Ivermectin for us since that would be easier than the bath option... it didn't come in dog-friendly flavours at my vet, but we managed. It took about 30 days for the mites to go away (plus two more months of tests that came back negative as well).

Good luck to you and Roo!

Vet said he could give meds, but he thinks her immune system should b able to cope with it. Since she was a rescue and just spayed he immune system was playing catch up and should be able to deal with it in the next couple weeks and since her home life is now stable she should be fine. If it gets worse he can prescribe meds, but he didn't like to prescribe medication unless he feels its 100% necessary. That said he would have prescribed if Stacy wanted it, by normally it isn't necessary. So we opted to watch and see how she goes. At least it's nothing serious! Thanks.
