So today was the first day koda was a grump.. It was all day.. I stayed home from work and school sick today.. But still was able to take him for his 30min walk. All day he was biting and would talk back when i told him no.. He chewes on my bed all day, i finally put some bitter spray on it.. But all day he would constantly crawl under my bed even thiugh he should know by now he isnt allowed under there..And then he growled at my sisters dog all day when i brought him over.. They dont get along the greatest but they never growled so much at eachother. Any tips on ways to warm them up to eachother? But anyway koda didnt have any aiccdents which is a good thing but he was a brat all day! But he still managed to act all cute and innocent infront of my mom lol..

I think it's an age thing. Kingsley's been like that for the past 4-5 days. He's not grumpy, it's just how he plays. He's really good about chewing his toys and not the furniture, but we're really ON HIM about it. If he gets anywhere near he's not supposed to be, he say loudly and in a stern voice "NO KINGSLEY!" then call him to come and reward him with love when he comes. He knows now to stay away from the litter box and not to wander out of any room we're in.

30 minutes is too long of a walk for a pup Koda's age. A good rule of thumb is 5 minutes per month of age per walking session. So, Koda should go on walks no longer than 10 minutes in duration. That's not to say he can have only 1 walk per day, he can do 10 minutes/3x a day. You don't want to strain his joints too much as he is still growing. I would keep this rule of thumb until he is at least 1 year in age, then you can switch him to adult food and be a LOT more physically active with him.

Ugh, Yuki has been grumpy lately too. -.- She hasn't nipped at me since she was small. But this morning Yuki began nipping me when I was trying to sleep! I left her out of her crate last night too so she could sleep in bed with me. Oh well she can just go back in her crate if shes gonna be such a brat

Maybe he was grumpy because he was tired. Karli gets grumpy when she's tired but doesn't want to sleep...that's when she gets a nap in the crate whether she likes it or not and afterwards she's always in a better mood.

I dont know maybe he did need a nap.. But hopefully he is better today when i get home from work and school.

Korra is a huge brat when she's tired, they're just like kids lol. If I ignore her for a while (I'll study or something) she'll just collapse and then I tell her to "go home" and she'll finish her nap in her crate.

Koda was an angel for his momma though! Do you think we should spray more of that bitter spray under the whole bed to defer him from going under there completely?

I think bitter apple defers just chewing, not really being around the area. I'd try putting some boards around the bed to block it off, its the only thing that worked for Yuki and only cost me $10

I second the boards. Though it's not pretty, he'll outgrow the space soon enough

Danielle, I think there are a few threads that help with bite inhibition.
For us what worked was when Tika bit we yelled OUCH! in a high pitched voice. She would stop and sit like OH NO! We would then say No Bite.
If he continues, you can walk away and ignore him. Or if he's really bad about it, put him in time out.

I tried the ouch thing with koda he would just talk back at me and go at it again. Doesnt mean it doesnt work for others dogs though.. I read somewhere to get a frozen stick of butter and rub it on your skin and let them lick you.. I dont know of it will work but i might try it to see what happens

I'm having the same issues. I've been yelping, getting up and walking away. getting up and sitting on the couch, etc. All he does is growl and bark at me like I'm playing with him. I was just wondering if there was something I could rub on my hands to keep him from wanting to bite.

I had the same issue, yelping or similar things made her get more riled up, turning away or removing myself was fine with her, she'd take the chance to go do something she knew she wasn't allowed to do. It just kept getting worse with the yelping. Honestly, meeting her bites with my hand and pushing back (gently!) is the only thing that worked. It was recommended by my friend wth a 6 y.o. husky that couldn't have cared less if her mom walked away from play and would just play with herself as a pup. Pair it with a command like "no bite!"
She's still fine with hands, she loves licking them and I can dig around in her mouth for stuff she shouldn't be eating, but she knows that it's not fine to biting hands. She plays with her mouth open but doesn't chomp down.
Honestly, I'd give him some more time to figure it out, he's been home for about a week? But that's an option if nothing else works.

When I got Pippa at 7 months she had little to no bite inhibition. I ended up just grabbing her snout shut and saying no in a low voice.

Som people don't like that method though and that might not be the best approach with a puppy, but after trying everything else, that's what worked for me.

What also has worked with me (I didn't use the "ouch" method til she was older and she doesn't like me being upset at her at all now) was sticking a toy in her mouth in place of my hand if she started to bite. It really got her to realize that toys were OK to chew on, Mommy's hands were not. So now when we play, she tries really hard to only bite the toy and if she does get my hands, she's very gentle about it. I've only had to say ouch at her a couple times and it makes her stop and stare at me like "what did I do, how do I make it better?"

My grandpa used to train German Shepards in the army, he always did kinda the same as was Katie was saying. But he showed us to hold the snout with very little pressure, tilt the head down to kind of force submission a little and say no bite. I did this with Kobi and now if he tries to play rough like that all i have to say is no bite and he starts licking my hand as if to say he's sorry lol.

Ive gotten the same response with that Katie, especially from my buddy who has 2 dogs a great dane and a chiuaua mix. All he tells them is no bite while pointing his finger, and the chiuaua will still snap at his finger. The great dane how ever was raised with a blind child and was taught to gently touch the kid with his mouth to let him know where he was. The great dane never bites just licks you to death lol
