| I believe Nikko just needs one more set of shots, his 4th, and he'll be getting them on Monday most likely. Is it safe for me to bring him to the dog park during off peak hours, when there will likely be no dogs? Like 9:30am? The past few days he's been bad, and I assume its because he's full of energy that can't really be let out in a town home. |

| It's still not a good idea since he has a high chance of being exposed to other dog's feces and urine. |

| I wouldn't, because even if it's "off hours" he can still pick up Parvo from contaminated soil. Wait a few more weeks, almost all dog parks have a minimum age of 4 months anyway. Are you doing any sort of training with him? When Ghost was a puppy, I found that mental stimulation wore her out better than romping around the yard. Keep his mind engaged, and he will be much more manageable. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Ok I'll hold off. I try and do some training with him, but I don't want to stuff him with 10-15 min worth of treats. I use the Zuke's minis and I don't like giving more than 3 or 4 at a time, unless its ok to? |

| When I did training with Rogue as a pup, I just tore up everything into pea-size so I could treat her for everything she did, but not overstuff her. But I still gave her more treats than most would, probably. My dogs get like 15 treats a day each still... haha. |

| I used, and still use, the Blue Wilderness blue bits. They're small enough that you can use several, and Ghost really likes them. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Hm. The Zuke's are only about 3 calories each, so I could probably get away with using more. I also ordered some Texas Holdem dehydrated lamb lung that Nikko got at puppy training class, so I could probably use a bunch of that too. Thanks all! |

| Hey, I used the Zuke's minis too. I would break them in half and the most Stark would get would be 2 - 3 half pieces (1 - 1 1/2 full pieces). Found this was more than enough for him well into his 5th month. The only times I would give him more than three is the second consistent time he did what we asked.
Hope this helps! |

| That's how many you used per day, or per session? |

| Per trick I eventually started giving him only a half treat and doing it less often and more sporadically. Kind of wish I'd given him a little more, he's a bit on the lean side now. |

| I use her kibble for training treats and just subtract from daily amount. |

When we were practicing and going to puppy school, Sabaka went through probably 20 per day...even cut in half! We did LOTS of tricks! I just figured I could give him a few less pieces of kibble and it would all be the same. |

| But thank you everyone for the response! I'm gonna try doing a bit more training and see if it helps. |

...but you said that you used Zuke's minis...?? My boy will do ANYTHING for raw carrots! He knows the sound of the carrot bag coming out of the fridge and he even knows the word "carrot" now. You don't have to treat with meat-based snacks. Sabaka also likes bananas and cheese. |

| I thought that if fed exclusively raw, mixing in kibble could have some digestive issues? I guess just a few pieces wouldn't. But it would be expensive treats lol |

Perhaps the confusion is in my statement that I give him a few less pieces of kibble for the day. That is because I do feed dry kibble and therefore can just give him a little less if I think he has been given too many treats that day. I know kibble works as a training treat for some dogs, but it is not "high value" enough for Sabaka to be impressed with it if I were to offer it for training! I have never feed raw, but there are others here who can readily speak about whether you can mix raw and kibble. |

I'm in the same boat as you Heather.... Cally is absolutely spoiled.... In answer to this post; I used/ still use Charlee Bear treats, I'm assuming there like the Zuke's minis? (only 3 calories) I would give Cally as many as she needed just because they are so small.... probably 10 -15 per session? Though, I also didn't give her treats for every single trick. I wanted her to learn that she has to do the trick no matter what and everytime she doesn't get a treat lol. So i would give her a treat, then the next time I wouldn't then I would then I wouldn't for two tricks and so on. |
