| Hi, My family and I are interviewing breeders to find the match we wish to find. As a young girl I was around dog shows often . I wish to get back to it with my own pack. I wish to find a red show quality male, to begin our pack. Does any one have any thoughts to share that would help to our journey? Any thoughts would be helpful.... Feeding thoughts , training, ect. |

| Hi! Welcome to the forum! Lots of show interested people showing up lately! I love it! I hope to show, too. There's actually a thread going right now of members just comparing their dogs to breed standard if you want to look it over.
Training. A lot of people will say start from day 1, which yes, I do encourage that, but I also say if you can find one, find a breeder that starts on some basic commands while the pups are still with mom. Even if it's just sit. That's one less thing you'll have to focus on once you get your new baby. I think this is especially important in the show world because you're sort of on a schedule. You only have x amount of days to get your dog behaved and under control before their first show. If you can get a pup that already knows how the world works, even just a little, it'll be a lot easier to have him ready to show sooner.
I won't get into feeding too much but just feed a high quality food. If you can get it at the grocery store, you don't want to feed it. Look at the ingredients. The first thing listed should always be some sort of meat, and no by-products. You also want every meat listed to be specific. If anything says "meat meal" or "meat by-product," skip it.
Crate train! Especially with a show dog! He needs to know his crate is his safe place.
The last thing I'll add, make sure whatever breeder you choose is willing to help you get back into showing and maybe teach you the ropes a little. Your breeder should be more than willing to answer your questions and never seem annoyed by them. They should not try to hide anything and they should ask you a lot of questions. Since you're interested in showing, I would also expect them to ask a lot of questions on your plans for breeding or offering a stud service, why you'd breed, what would you do before mating two dogs to make sure they're fit to breed, all that fun stuff.
Good luck! I can't wait to see your pup! |

| Ah.. Ohio. A place where sibe breeders are far and few between. I can't give you a great recommendation as my breeder isn't into showing and I wouldn't recommend them to you, but if you do find a good breeder you'll have to let me know as I am personally looking for a show quality red in a couple years. ^-^ Also once you get your pup be sure to attend our Ohio meet ups! Welcome to the forum! |

| Oh no worries on that, I know quite a few of those!
Are you looking for a show dog? That isn't an easy feat, but you will have to develop a relationship with someone before they will sell to you - in most cases. |
