Advantix didn't seem to be working too well on my girls for some reason, so I went and bought some Richard's Organics Flea and Tick Spray. It has a pretty strong smell to it, but it's not that bad of a smell and it went away after a day (though it still smells strongly of it on the porch where I sprayed my girls, so I'd recommend spraying on your dog outside and not in the house). It says it lasts 4 weeks, so we'll see how well it works! Siku is a bit allergic to flea bites and will chew/lick her skin raw where she gets bit. Hopefully this will give her bad spots some time to heal.

Anyone else use this product?

I don't doubt that it would work but you could do it yourself for so much cheaper by just buying the oils yourself and using those. It's basically the same thing, you're just paying a premium for them to mix the oils and give it to you in a nice spray bottle.

I wouldn't count on that stuff lasting 4 weeks though, maybe every week or two seems more realistic. But that will vary based on a lot of factors so I would use it as needed rather than sticking to a set schedule. I use my essential oils on an as needed basis with my dogs these days and it's been months since I last used oils on them and they are all still flea/tick free.

Val, do ya'll treat your yard for fleas too?

I don't mean to hijack, but since the fleas are pretty rampant here I was going to use the oils but wasn't sure if they would be strong enough to fight them. I would love to go the most natural / organic way but if worse comes to worse, I may have to use a flea/tick medicine.

Ashleigh, my husband does use a chemical yard treatment on our front and backyard that does kill fleas and ticks (and much more) 3 times a year. Once in the spring, once in summer, and once in fall. There are woods behind our house and all around us though so I there is definitely plenty of exposure to both fleas and ticks all year round for my dogs and they still don't pick up anything. We have deer, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, opossums, wild rodents, moles, feral cats, more birds than I can mention including very large birds of prey, hawks, eagles, huge owls, etc that all come into our yard regularly due to our proximity to untouched woods. We walk our dogs in the woods and still they haven't picked up a thing.
