| Hello everyone! My name is Alexa and I am going to be a husky momma! My boyfriend (ericobeasto) and I are getting at husky at the beginning of January. Okay, technically it's HIS dog, but I have deemed him ours! I currently have two little Shih Tzus, so this is going to be a big change for me! I am nervous and excited! I love all of the stories everyone shares on here, and I look forward to sharing my own soon! I would appreciate input for being a new momma! -Alexa

| A lot of people will chime in with more information soon, but be careful not to run your pup at an early age. You can only do short walks, 5 minutes per month of age. In January he will be 3 months? So you can only walk for 15 minutes at a time. I'm not sure what age you stop the 5 minute per month thing, hopefully someone can chime in here so they can tell you at what age he can start running. Best of luck with the new pup!
Edit: I got this off someone else's post "The 5 min per month rule is for each walk not per day, once they hit about a year it's usually ok to stop following the rule"
So you could probably take 2-3 walks a day if they were spaced out properly. Yuki only had one walk a day and it tired her out pretty good as a pup, but now that shes 4 month only the dog park wears her out so we'll have to start going on 2 walks XD |

| oh wow! Thanks! That's great to know! I was blindly assuming to just start him from an early age. PS your pups are beauties! I think I have some puppy fever! |

| Thank you! Yuki's been a handful but Cloud and her are the loves of my life I'm searching for the answer to the running thing now, I'm also interested when I can start running Yuki, I have a feeling its one year old. Also, playing around in the yard or at the dog park doesn't count as a regular walk so you don't have to worry about the 5min rule, it doesn't strain their joints like a planned walk would and grass is a softer surface than pavement.. I just remember seeing that post somewhere^ |

| Alright here's a couple tips. I pulled the quotes and member names off another forum, but the first two are members here as well ^-^ SolitaryHowl - "I would not run them let alone make them pull anything until they were at least 1.5 years old." HuskyMom09 - "I don't believe in pulling before 18 months" Sid_Wolf - "my youngest was running rallies at a year old after starting training at 8 months"
Since yours isn't pulling you could probably start some light jogging by 1 to 1.5 years. The main thing is to make it gradual, start by doing longer walks and then short jogs, and gradually go on longer runs. The slower the process the easier on the joints ^-^ |

| Haha everything is a novel! I do agree with you it -is- a long wait, I remember just waiting for Yuki to come home! I put the deposit down on her when she was only 2 weeks old so I was annoying Abby by texting her every day saying 'only 22 days til Yuki comes home..' 'only 3 weeks til Yuki comes home..' 'hey Abby-' 'I know only 20 days til your Yuki comes home!' lol. Puppy proof the entire home before bringing him home.. or else he will do it for you! LOL! Have you given crate training any thought? I don't use Yuki's crate except for at night and when I'm on very short errands (2 hours or less) but I've learned real quick that she can be destructive in only an hour if left to herself. Kongs seem to work really well to keep dogs occupied while in their crate, but Yuki doesn't care for them (my luck) and finds them disinteresting no matter what flavor of treat I give her, but its worth a try for you guys. My favorite thing to do with Yuki is go to the dog park! Also your pup will be old enough to go to some dog events this spring so just google 'dog events in your city, ohio.' You could probably find a few things to go to that were a blast for me to take Cloud to! I'm currently looking into Christmas Walks myself for Cloud and Yuki, but obviously for springtime you'll want to look into events later next year. Also I'll be looking into setting up a meet with you guys sometime next year as I asked in Eric's post and saw you guys were in Ohio as well ^-^ so that'll be fun. Let's see, everything about Yuki - she loves to argue, and destroy. Especially destroy then argue with me when I tell her she's being bad for destroying. She's very possessive of her toys, and doesn't like it when Cloud tries to take one, but if he really wants it he'll fight for it and she will back off, tehe! Yuki is a bit wary of strangers - those who love her the most and are the most anxious to pet her she will avoid, maybe they 'come off too strong' XD. There are two husky owners at the dog park who always want to love on Yuki, she always runs away. She will go up to total strangers and woo at them to pet her though As a husky owner, prepare for STUPID PEOPLE ahahha! I always get comments such as 'is she a wolf', 'is she a mini husky', 'is she an alaskan husky', 'does she bite', 'why did she growl at me', 'are you going to breed her', 'can I have one of her puppies', 'she must eat a lot', 'she has a lot of growing to do huh', 'does she pull', 'why isnt she wearing a muzzle', 'isnt that dog dangerous', and many other ignorant remarks. But don't blame the people.. they're just the under educated side of humanity that we label 'the forever ignorant'. They will think what they think and nothing you say can change their minds XD So sure, Yuki is a wolf mini husky that bites and doesnt have a muzzle to normal dog owners, but to husky owners shes just like all other sibes - the sweetest, most loving dog that has a personality of its own! There's my novel of the day XD |

| Alexa i am on the same page as you! I put my down payment on my pup at 2 weeks. I get to bring him home Dec. 15. I am probable driving this breeder insane with all my text and yes a pic a week is almost not enough. Daily would be so much better! |

Hello! I run with Danzig all the time. I never had to train him to in anyway either. He's far better on the leash running than just walking. He was taught the "leave it" comand, so if he gets distracted on our runs, I just say "leave it" and he continues on. Your pup is so cute! |

Hi sierra, im kodasmoms boyfriend.. Ur pup is so cute!!! I always tell my breeder if im annoying you with all these emails just tell me lol!!! Luckly she understands how excited we are about getting this special guy into our family!! I think most breeders understand that the people like us that constantly bother them, are going to be great homes for their pups!! I was so lucky.. My breeder actually bumbed me up to first pick when there were people ahead of me because i was in contact with her so much!! But i cant wait until this weekend to get a new updated picture!!!!! |

Your pup is so cute! How old was he when you started running him, most things I have been reading say at least 1 year. Just wondering.. |
