1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. I am new here and also new to owning a husky. I have noticed variations in how a husky looks. I was told mine is a pure bred and even had papers at one time (since he was adopted from a humane society they destroy the papers), but to me he looks a little different than others huskies I have seen. His ears are not quite as large and pointy and his body also seems a little shorter. He is 50 lbs. and 1.5 years old. It really doesn't make a difference to me, it is just a question of curiosity and thought it would be interesting to hear opinions from others whether he does look 100% husky and also what affects the differences in looks. He definitely has all the personality traits of a husky, no doubt of that! Smile

I see nothing that indicates him not being purebred. There are extremes to each end of the spectrum on looks and it has to do with breeding lines. There are breed standards, but that doesn't mean that dogs outside of standard don't get bred due to irresponsible breeding.

Also, to some extent, breeds go through "trends" in the show ring, though I'm no expert on the subject. They are still within standard, but certain traits get admired during these trends and can become more prolific in the following lines.

If you are interested, you can find the breed standards on the AKC site or Siberian Husky Club of America.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! Smile I feel pretty sure too that he is definitely a husky, and I think he's handsome too! Don't need the papers for that, even though he supposedly once had them. You all have some beautiful dogs too! Smile The Husky is truly a beautiful breed with obviously lots of variations in colors and looks. They also have quite a personality, never a dull moment that's for sure! I especially love how my boy talks to us with that beautiful howl.

Ah such a good looking dog I would bet he is all husky. I have often question whether my little girl is all husky she was a rescue we got from a shelter in Missouri. At this point I don't care I love her to death and she is a real love bug which my male is not he is very aloof and I know he is all husky.

You're right it doesn't matter when you love your pet, but both of yours do look like huskies. Smile They told me at the shelter where I adopted that there were papers that they threw away since they require you to neuter your newly adopted pet, they never give out the papers if there were any. I guess it's natural to wonder and question things like that when you don't know for sure and don't know the whole story of what happened before you got the dog. That's nice that your female is so affectionate. Mine is too, but he jumps a lot which I don't like. That is one thing I need to work on is getting him to calm down and not jump on me when he is excited. He is very strong and could just about knock me over!
