Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hi! Meet Kingsley (and me!). Empty
PostSubject: Hi! Meet Kingsley (and me!).    Hi! Meet Kingsley (and me!). EmptyWed Nov 28, 2012 10:36 pm

Hello, all!

I am a 25-year-old former South Texan that has recently relocated to Central New York. I got married in January. We moved because my husband is currently in the PhD program at Cornell University.

I studied Business Administration and Human Resources in my undergrad and then started teaching 7th/8th grade Science. I got my Masters degree in Education Administration in 2011.

When we moved to NY, I couldn't find a teaching job in this small town, so I'm working at the front desk of a hotel here in town (ugh). But I'm grateful to be employed at all because IT MEANS THAT WE GET A PUPPY!!!!

I had several dogs living back home, but they were relatively low maintenance and small dogs. I currently have an 8-year-old tuxedo cat named Binky (I was in high school when I named her, whatever). And she's sassy and fabulous.

Once my landlord gave us the go-ahead to get a dog, I did pleeeenty of research, then found a breeder located outside of Albany, NY.

Our pup is 3 weeks old today. Here he is:

3 days:

2 weeks:

3 weeks:

He's gonna be cuuuuuuute. Anyway, does anyone have any advice? Any "if-I-had-known-this" stories? I'm all ears!

My only advice is 1. start crate training right away, 2. search thoroughly on what type of food you're going to feed (huskies can have sensitive stomachs), and 3. look up the nothing in life is free training method which hopefully someone will link soon. The only thing I didn't know was the food part, once I switched Yuki over to Taste of the Wild from Blue Buffalo she was fine, but she has been crate trained and always gone through 'nothing in life is free' training and she has done wonderful so far Very Happy Good luck with your new pup, he's gorgeous!

1. I spoke with my breeder today and she said that she starts crate/house training the pups before we pick him up to kind of help with that. I'm glad of that.
2. I was thinking Blue Buffalo unless he has issues with it.
3. I've been reading/watching training methods all over the place and the NILIF method has been our favorite (me and my husband's). I think it'll work out nicely.
4. Thank you! I will most definitely start a scrapbook in here and of course obsess over him in my personal blog (www.wesatonashoreline.wordpress.com )

What an adorable puppy! Welcome!

Texas to NY, now that is quite a move. Hope you enjoy it though, especially with your soon to be husky baby Smile

I can also vouch for the sensitive stomachs. In fact, Sage can only eat fish based or rabbit based foods I've found. She's actually allergic to everything else!! Sitting on Nature's Variety Instinct raw formulas until Orijen starts stocking back up with my food supplier, which hopefully will be soon.

Excellent! Haha XD I was originally on Blue Wilderness for the pups but it just made Yuki too sick. I know someone else is having success with Blue so just do whatever you think is best for your pup, and obviously if you end up having complications switch his food. I wanted to stay on Blue Buffalo because I thought it was such a great food but in the end Yuki just did so much better on Taste of the Wild pacific that I have to say I wish I had switched sooner. I think my pups can't have chicken because they didn't do well on neither the chicken and rice Blue Buffalo food nor the Blue Wilderness food. Can't wait to see more pictures as he grows!

Adorable puppy! Welcome to the forum. In my experience, these dogs thrive on consistent training and routine.

Totally forgot about that. I'm honestly too lazy to feed raw and am too afraid that I'll poison the pups with bad meat so I stick to kibble, but raw is better for them ^-^
