| I'd like to start a thread for owners of husky mixes! Share photos, stories, scrapbook links, baby pictures, and other information about your pup! What other breeds is your husky-mix mixed with? How big is your husky-mix? Does he/she act like a husky or exhibit behavioral traits common to the other breeds he/she is mixed with? And etc, etc! I'll start off the thread by introducing my husky mix, Maya. She's a 7 month old female, half husky (father was a purebred sibe, mother was a chow chow x australian shepherd mix). For more information on her background and for a lot of photos, check out her scrapbook!: https://www.itsahuskything.com/t6084-maya-s-scrapbook-of-adventures-updated-11-15Maya has a lot of husky traits! for instance, she is the most lovable, sweet girl ever! I've met a lot of huskies (used to work at a local Petsmart PetsHotel) and every husky I've met seems to share this trait... it's kind of hard to describe, but it's as if they have this gentle manner about them, when they jump up to greet you with kisses, light on foot and so soft and cuddly. This is totally Maya. However, she is also incredibly stubborn... and I'm sure gets this not only from her husky lineage but also from the chow chow on her mother's side. Yikes! I certainly can't take her off leash without a fenced enclosure. She's got the intensity and agility of an australian shepherd at times, and boy, is she fast! She's a petite girl, a very picky eater (I have to mix in wet food and often some hard boiled egg or ground beef to get her to eat!) At 7 months, she weighs around 35 pounds. I really don't think she is going to get huge. Her mother weighed 45 pounds but was very short and stocky. Maya is longer and leaner, although I do think she will fill out a good deal with time! Anyway, I look forward to hearing about other people's husky mixes!! |

| This was Christy, the husky/collie mix we got for Christmas when I was 5 years old. Daddy always wanted a dog with green eyes, and she had gorgeous green eyes when she was a puppy that turned a beautiful golden brown when she got older. She "talked" like huskies and had a curly tail. She would also get the notion to run laps outside around and around the house, what we called "wild dog". You can see she had the mask like huskies too. I knew I would someday want a husky just from having her. She was almost 10 years old and had arthritis when she died, and I still miss her. |

| So here is Char We rescued him from the SPCA when he was just 3 months old. We were told he was a Siberian Husky mix from an unwanted litter. That is all the information we had. We were very curious as to his mix so we decided to do a DNA test on him. Needless to say we were surprised at the results. Now I am not sure how accurate these tests are, but the results stated that his was 75% or higher Siberian Husky and 9% or less Chihuahua and 9% or less Pekingese. I get a lot of people telling me that he definitely has border collie in him. He does resemble photos I have seen of smooth coated BCs. As far as I can tell he is all husky in personality. He shows no herding instincts. He rarely barks except at our cats who refuse to play with him.lol He can be very saucy and loves to talk back. He is fairly low energy for a husky, but that means he has plenty, but nothing a good walk everyday and some play won't cure. I will be taking him to an Urban mushing intro clinic next week to see if this may be something we might be interested in doing. I am not sure he has mushing in him, he can definitely pull, but not sure he will be able to do it without getting side tracked by a million things along the way! You can see more pictures in his scrapbook https://www.itsahuskything.com/t5838-char-s-scrapbook-updated-11-17-12 |

| Megan- that husky/ GSD is adorable! He definitely looks more shepherd than husky, but I can see the husky in there! Strangely, so many people think my Maya is a husky/ shepherd mix... I don't see it at all... perhaps it's her black mask that makes them think shepherd. Toni- Christy was GORGEOUS. I bet she was a wonderful dog to grow up with. I know how it feels to miss a childhood dog... I grew up with a black lab and yellow lab and miss them dearly. Anyway, thanks for sharing the photo of Christy! Shelly- gosh, I love Char! He is so close in age to my girl Maya! Thank you for sharing his story- it's great to hear about people rescuing! Based on color, I do see some border collie in him. I love playing the breed guessing game with mixies! Looking at his ear shape, I wonder if he could possibly have some GSD in him? He's got those big, tall ears! And his coat looks like the texture of a shepherd's coat. Although it's hard to tell just by looking at a photo. And what about Australian Cattle dog? Well, whatever he is, he's so handsome <3 Thanks for posting and also for including a link to his scrapbook! |

| Freya is a Husky x Bull Mastiff. Her mum was a pure breed Husky while her dad was 1/4 Mastiff 3/4 husky. My little Fre Fre is 1/8th bull mastiff. She has the coat colouring of a mastiff. She has the facial wrinkles, she is quite muscular like the mastiff and has small joules, she doesnt woo or talk, but she does bark and it's a very deep big girl bark. Other than that she is husky. She malts like crazy but doesnt seem to have an intence double coat; although it is precent in places such as her back legs, she has upright, allert ears and the curly husky tail. She is so affectionate and loving. She has her active times and her placid times. Freya is 7 months old, we got her when she was 6 weeks old from a BYB (at the time I didnt know there was anything wrong with that). My son has melignant brain and spinal tumors and Make-A-Wish in Western Australia had just closed it's doors to all new applicants due to a lack of funds. I asked my son what his wish was and he said he wanted a dog. It was a wish I could grant him myself without the aid of MAW. We went through a breeder to get a pure breed Maltese. During this time my son relapsed and had to go back into hospital for further treatment. When the breeder got wind of this she told us we couldnt have the pup because she coudlnt guarantee we could look after it while my son was sick. We were devastated, but knew it obviously wasnt meant to be that we get that dog. When my son finished treatment we went looking for dogs. We looked around shelters, we looked in the pound. We eventually found Freya's family. Of all the pups she was the biggest female. She was a big mass of orange fur. Her temperment was perfect and the second I held her she felt like home. Over the next week I went back to familiarise myself with her. She was such a perfect little girl and fit so well into our family. We brought her home and although we had a few ups and downs to begin with, mostly my sons not realising that she had sharp pointy teeth and would latch onto anything you put near her face, even fingers. We sorted that all out and she is now the most perfect dog I could ever possibly imagine. Yes, she digs holes, big giant ones that could house a small family comfortably, and she has a sensative tummy which leaves her with terrible gas and occasionally vomits - but that seems to be settling down now as she has gotten older. She and my son are almost inseperable. They do everything together, she loves to sleep in his bed, she wants to be on him always, playing what ever he is playing. THey even jump on the tramploine together. I'd be so lost without my baby girl, she is so much more than a dog, so much more than an animal companion. She is my daughter in all sences of the word. The day we brough litte teeny weeny Freya home. BFFs |

| Becca- thanks for starting this thread, I love it. I know there are more mixes on here so I hope they post their stories. I love all the pictures of Maya and her litter mates, so nice that you are in touch with them and get to watch them grow. I often think about Char's brother and wonder how he is, especially since we were originally going to adopt him.
Francine- I love Freya, I was wondering if you were going to post. She was meant to be yours that is for sure. Many of us have been educated about BYBs since joining this forum, but no matter where you got her, she needed a home and found a great one. |
