Not For Yuki This Time - Cloud Becoming Aggressive? Empty
PostSubject: Not For Yuki This Time - Cloud Becoming Aggressive?   Not For Yuki This Time - Cloud Becoming Aggressive? EmptyThu Nov 22, 2012 2:30 am

Time for another double-forum post :S So this isn't for my husky but rather my 8 month old american eskimo. He's never really been friendly, he will tolerate people petting him but he will never approach people on his own except for me and my mom. Well a couple of incidents have happened lately, and I'm wondering whats going on. First off whenever I get back to the pet sitters, all the dogs approach me and want attention, but Cloud growls and chases them all off until he is the only one next to me. If another dog tries to come over and I start petting it, he chases it off again. It's like he's trying to protect me for the dogs, or rather maybe he sees me as his territory and is protecting his turf from the dogs? (Which I hate the thought of seeing as I thought I had established myself as alpha) We also had an incident at the sugarcreek metro park hiking trails. As we were walking a group of kids walked by and one kid pat Cloud as he walked back with which Cloud just shrunk down but kept walking. Another kid was approaching and squatted down to let Cloud sniff his hand and Cloud didn't even try to sniff his hand, he just hid under me. The kid asked me if it was okay to pet Cloud and seeing as I'm trying to socialize him as best I can I said that yes its fine, he doesn't bite. Well to my surprise when the kid went to pet Cloud, he snapped and tried to bite the kid! I have never seen Cloud try to bite anyone before, it really shocked me! I felt bad and apologized to the kid but I was kind of stunned. I was wondering if maybe he snapped at the kid because he thought it was the same one that had suddenly pet him passing by, or maybe it was once again being protective of me? The last incident happened today at the dog park, as soon as we entered the gates there was a red husky pup about 7 months old (which we have seen before and have had no problems with) and Cloud IMMEDIATELY starts growling, snarling, and lunging at the poor pup. I had to leash him to give him a time out and every time the husky ran by he was growling again -facepalm-. Now Cloud is -not- fixed as of right now, but he WILL be fixed on November 30th, in nine days. I'm wondering if fixing him will solve all these issues though, or if there are certain things I can start doing to correct these situations? There has been no change in schedule or home or anything so I don't think it could be stress from a new situation, Its just baffling me that these past couple weeks he has been acting like this :S

could be that he's not fixed yet, my vet and trainer suggested getting my pup done before 8 months due to the fact he could start marking and have some changes in his behavior.
