Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hi! My name is Kandice. I currently live in Ft. Riley, KS but I'm about to be back home in south Alabama. We got our first Husky while being stationed here...a lady's husband deployed and she couldnt care for the dog any longer so we gave him a new home. He was the best dog I have ever had in my life (I was always partial to Rat Terriers since that is what I grew up around but he changed my mind) He did so well around my children and would always go with me to put my youngest to bed and check on her. He got a tumor on his spine that they couldnt fix and it paralyzed him so we had to put him down. I lost a piece of my heart that day, he was such an awesome boy.

After that we said we would get another one and hopefully a younger one so we could love it longer. So a few weeks later we saw someone that was getting rid of an 8 month old husky and we got him..they were about to move on post and couldnt bring him to housing so we gave him a new home...he's now about 2 years old and is super awesome. He does so well with my 14 month old son, he'll let him climb on him and pull on his ears haha...gives him kisses. We had two females but had to give them back to their owners...they didnt get along with my Rat Terrier, the males though never seem to care. I'm hoping once we get home to Alabama we can find a female that will be a good addition to our home, maybe a pup so she'll get use to Jmann, my rat terrier. I think it would make Bandit happy since Jmann is my old man dog and doesnt play haha. Well that is a little about me and my doggies. Hope to get to know you all soon.

Welcome! We live not too far from Andalusia for now, but we're moving with the Navy up to Maryland in a couple of weeks. I have a Gulf Coast H2M2 group that meets monthly between Pensacola and Destin. Check us out on Facebook if you get a chance. I'm also pretty well connected with rescues in the area, and I can tell you which breeders to stay far away from. Good luck with the move!

"Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you become a fierce defender of the ways in which your little one is perfectly ordinary — all the things he or she can do that are just like what everybody else does. And yet, you never lose sight of how absolutely extraordinary that very ordinariness is, how difficult, remarkable and rewarding that fight to be 'just like everybody else' has been."  -Gwen Cooper, "Homer's Odyssey"
