| Just wondering, Miya was through shedding back in April, I didn't think it would ever end. My neighbor has a husky too. Miya's boyfriend and he's shedding so bad right now he's downright mangy looking. I figured being in Texas they shed sooner than you're dogs up north. After looking at him today not so. So why is there a difference? Renee bad pic of Miya's boyfriend Zeke playing with my husband only one I have to compare |

| I think it may be because they come from different lines? Maybe he's fluffier than she is so he might be shedding more, and longer? |

| We live between Abilene and Brownwood. Out in the middle of nowhere, so to speak. 60 miles to Abilene and 45 miles to Brownwood. It's very difficult to find a good vet and high end kibble, besides other things. Such a drastic change for us, we used to live near Tampa, Florida. Are you familiar with the Abilene area? Yes he's fluffier than she is, she's also taller and a little bit heavier.
And thank you for replying. I posted up pics of Miya, wasn't sure if I did it right. She looks nothing like her boyfriend, and nothing like her daddy, he was all husky, her mother looks like her, wasn't sure exactly if she's all husky too, she looks nothing like her siblings. At the vet we put her down as husky/mix. Can't quite figure out what tho. Also she tends to be taller and heavier than other peoples huskies we've met in person as well as here on the forums. Any help would be appreciated.

| Btw, as a young girl, my first dog was a husky/german shepherd 50/50, and you could tell by looking at her, tail and size was husky, and markings were all gsd. So I am just wondering if she looks husky or is she mixed, don't matter really, just curious. Breeder is the same for both dogs with relation lineage, if that makes sense. |

| Some of it is genetic, but I think that other things play a role (amount of time inside in a climate controlled environment vs outside, etc) I moved from GA where there's obvious seasons to FL where the seasons aren't as noticeable. Luci's coat hasn't changed much, but I think it's because she's mostly in the house where we keep the temp consistently in the mid 70s all year. |

| Thank you Eresh for your reply. That might explain to some degree, as well as Rocio's reply. He is more outside dog and my girl is more indoor, although he has way more hair, gosh how do they survive in this heat? It must be unbearable. I'm out with Miya 6 times a day for about a half hour each, that's all I can stand, and I actually wait for Miya to go to the door, so about a half hour is all she can stand too. Are your dogs way less active right now? Gave Miya tapeworm med on Monday, her appetite has been back for the last couple of days, but her energy has not. Trying to figure out why she doesn't really want to play, or even go for a walk? |

| I lived in Missouri and Shaqua had her blow out twice a year. I moved to Mississippi and it seems to be a year long event. Never as bad at the full coat blows, but constantly blowing one part or another of her coat. She is definitely inside a LOT MORE than she was in Missouri... as in she only goes outside for a run, and her potty business. Other than that she is happy to lay around in the AC all day. Journey, being just a pup, is the same way actually.... surprising. I expected the rambunctious puppy and somehow I got the pup-going-on-8 mentality in this one. LOL She is shedding slowly too.... like her puppy coat is blowing area by area rather than all at once. |

| Ah, that's what he does, area by area, so daily/weekly. Miya's not shedding a thing, grateful to only have to sweep every couple of days now, when she was full on blowing coat I had to sweep daily. You're lucky in a way that Journey is so laid back, I didn't think Miya would ever calm down. Now I regret that, I'm always worried that she is sick, when it really could be she's just growing up.
To anyone reading this, Samantha, before Miya got tapeworm, she did her running around or played a toy with us. I'm not sure how long it takes to get back to normal, everything but her activity level is back to normal. We take her out at night and she'd rather sniff around then play while we get ate up by mosquitoes. Frustrating to say the least and I have looked at old posts to see if anyone mentioned anything similar to this. I'll get separate post up in health section.

| Hmm I'm not familiar with those areas. I live in southern New Mexico, near El Paso Tx. But I definitely think lineage as well as temperature has a lot to do with it. Lycus is also has short fur, and is much larger than a husky should be. He didn't come from a reputable breeder, so for all I know, he could be mixed. |

| I had a feeling you were near El Paso, don't know why, too bad Miya needs more playmates. Can't tell from your avatar but does Lycus have tall pointy ears too? I can tell he has a long snout like Miya. Something that I find strange here is that every husky is described as husky/wolf, how about your area? Miya might be able to be passed off as that, but i did see her parents, I know the sire was 100 percent husky. Now our nieghhbors swear their guy is, and in no way is he, he is all husky as well. People are very ignorant or they think it's cool, don't know which. It took me forever to convince my husband that Miya is a husky with probably gsd mixed in somewhere, explains her ears, snout , tail and eyes, and short coat. I really thank you for taking interest in this post. I guess we all have an idea that a husky should be dark in color with blue eyes, and if they don't look like that there is something else there. Husky's are as different individually as humans I guess.

| Yeah, it's too bad. Yes, he does have pointy ears as well. He also does have the long snout. People usually call him a GSD mix before a husky. I've had few people call him a husky/wolf but I have had people say he looks like a wolf lol. Especially kids.
There are a lot of ignorant people, especially about the breed. Many people think that huskies should be SUPER fluffy, basically having wooly coats, or they think they're mixed. The standard husky coat is a medium length. Not too short, and not too long.
I also think that people have a general idea of what huskies should look like. Lycus is mostly white, but he does have quite a bit of gray on his back, tail, and his ears/face. |

| For shedding, I'm convinced it has a lot to do with genetics. My one girl Siku who has a shorter coat sheds all the time; like non-stop! Elara, however, only blows coat once or twice a year and she has a longer coat than Siku. _________________ -Sara |

| Ok, I got real mad at my computer, I had a nice response going and then poof, my post was gone......to Rocio I have more people ask me if Miya is a white german shepherd than anything else. Took her to petsmart when she was 5 months old and to our surprise there were 3 other huskies getting ready for a class. Not one of them believed she was younger than theirs, they were 6,7, and 8 months old, Miya was taller, bigger, they were on the first class they offered, she was past their typical 3rd class they offered. Lol, people are strange.
Sara, never noticed, sorry, but there is rescue specific info on the forum or just listings of huskies needing rescue and people posting up the huskies they have rescued? I didn't look, because I would be bugging my husband to get everyone of them. We are seriously thinking of fostering, and wasn't sure if there's info listed there or if you know where I could go? I know fostering would be nice, I also know that we would end up keeping some. My neighbor is the director of our local humane society, foster, and thrift store. They are a no kill, and she was asking if they ever get huskies if we'd be interested. Any help with that? |

| Haha, yeah. I get the GSD thing a lot. From the picture on your avatar, she doesn't really look GSD to me. Maybe it's just the angle. Do you have a scrapbook for her on here? Here is a link to Lycus' and you can be the judge of whether he looks GSD mixed to you lol. Lycus' ScrapbookYou can go to the 3rd page for the most recent photos of him. |

| Rocio, He's just so handsome. You got so many pics of him. I guess I didn't name my post correct, I put "some pics of my Miya" and didn't name it scrapbook. Guess I need to change it. Did you meet Lycus's sire and dam? Miya's sire looks like first pic I put on this thread, her boyfriend, Zeke, he is small, dark, blue eyed, her sire was too. Miya's dam looked like her. Lycus has similar frame to Miya, his eyes and tail are dead giveaway to husky, Miya's tail fans out at times, but never curls like your guy. I don't have any pics of her standing I don't think, but Lycus and Miya have longer legs, than most huskies I've seen. I seriously need to get a camera, I have some pink wild flowers that she lays in, in the morning when we go out. We've had alot of rain so far this year and everything is green and wild flowers are all over, seen y'all had alot of rain too.
Abilene is west central Texas, our neighbors travel to NM often, so we aren't that far. Scenery is similar, except for those white sand dune pics I saw, how awesome.
Anyway, I'll see if I can rename my post of pics, had alot of views but no comments. hmmm, maybe she doesn't look husky enough, lol. I thank you for coming here to my post and made me feel welcomed. Huskies are such a special breed and I wanted to learn more, and share in my wonderful journey with my sweet girl. Renee |

| Sorry for the late reply, Renee! I haven't been on here as often so I lost the thread lol.
Thanks! I saw you're scrapbook for Miya as well and she's gorgeous as well. I really love the brown eyes.
Yes, Lycus definitely has longer legs than usual. His vet and vet techs love him because of his long lanky legs. As for the tail, I think a standard husky isn't actually supposed to curl like that. It's a fault in the show ring. Although a lot of huskies do have it, especially when they don't come from reputable breeders.
You're welcome as well. I'm glad to know you're liking the forum. There is a lot of helpful information on here. It sure has helped me a lot as well! |

| Rocio may be able to help with this, but she is right, husky tails shouldn't curl up, I believe that is a malamute trait, am I right Rocio? Doesn't matter, I love how huskies are so unique, each having a little difference. Some dogs, labs for example, look pretty much the same. Nice to hear from you Rocio. If you could see her in person, her eyes have a bluish ring around her brown, which make her eyes appear to be a light brown, strange. I measure her the other day, of course she wouldn't stand still, she was between 22 and 24 inches at her shoulder and I think she'll have one more growth spurt. Take care, Renee
Hey any idea on at the top of my post there was a bar on the right hand side half green and half red? |

| I'm actually not too sure if it's a Malamute trait or not. I think the same thing about huskies. I feel they're very unique compared to labs, but then again, we might be a little biased Lately I've been liking brown eyed huskies more and more. I feel like blue eyed ones are more common to see. She's pretty tall. Lycus is actually around 27 inches at the shoulder. I call him my sasquatch lol. As far as the bar on the right, that is meant for 'treats' on this forum. When somebody things you give either good or bad advice, they can give or take away a treat. Someone must have accidentally given you a bad treat, thus the red, but then it was fixed since there was no bad advice on that post, so they gave you a treat, thus showing the green. |

| Aha, makes sense. I was like there was really no advice here just some fun bantering about how huskies are so different. Yes we're biased but I can not atm think of another breed that can vary so much, color of coat, eyes, tail, coat length, etc.
I adore your guys eyes. On our neighbors husky, he looks mean or possessed at times with his blue eyes, funny how we see things a certain way. He's a great dog, not scared of him, just his look, and he is wooly and beautiful as well. I do prefer the lighter colored huskies, tho. He also doesn't have the up turn mouth like most do, where they look like they are smiling, that is one thing I look for in dogs and every cat I've had. Weird, I know, but I want to look at a happy pet not a frown. My girl has a happy face, same with Lycus, and a contagious smiling husky is Sarab's smaller husky, they both have it but the smaller one has the eye expression that's just too much for me, I want to hug that little dog, she almost looks like a stuffed animal. That's my girly girl going, sorry. I just love looking at the pics here, it's incredible how a husky puppy's coat changes as they grow too.
Btw, I wasn't putting labs down, I was going to say chihuahua dogs, but couldn't for the life of me remember how to spell it. Lol. Good to chat with ya again. Take care, Renee |

| Your discussion about a Husky's tail taken from the AKC web site: - Quote :
Tail: The well furred tail of fox-brush shape is set on just below the level of the topline, and is usually carried over the back in a graceful sickle curve when the dog is at attention. When carried up, the tail does not curl to either side of the body, nor does it snap flat against the back. A trailing tail is normal for the dog when in repose. Hair on the tail is of medium length and approximately the same length on top, sides and bottom, giving the appearance of a round brush. Faults - A snapped or tightly curled tail; highly plumed tail; tail set too low or too high. Like most dogs, the tail is probably the most expressive part of their anatomy - it can say a multitude of things! A husky's normal state is to have his (sexist, I know) tale hanging loose. At attention, expect it to be curled over their back. I could probably write a book about 'expressions' from their tails ... |

| HA! My Bartok is only a puppy and I am already learning the 'art of the tail' so to speak. When he is excited his tail curves up over his back and it is the cutest thing I have ever seen. |
