| http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/pet/3396651972.html Dakota and i are going to meet her this afternoon. I'm so excited, she is soo pretty, i hope they get along. if they seem to get along this afternoon should i offer to take her home on the spot or should i set up additional playdates ... I'm not sure how this works |

| I would probably wind up taking her home if all seemed well, but that's just how I am.
One red flag I noticed was the part about her not getting along with her 8 month old son and her "jealousy". I would dig for more details on that, especially if you have young children. |

| That does sound strange about not getting along with her son. Be sure to ask exactly what that means. I'd be inclined to take her home that day as long as everything goes well. |

| yeah i noticed that. I'm bringing my daughter with us to see how the dog reacts to her. lots of people have children and are able to train their dogs to accept thebaby. I wonder what they had done to try to acclimate her to the new baby, or if they just assumed she would be fine with it and did no prepping at all and now the dog is resentful. |

| That's a good point. It's very possible they did nothing to prepare. Or it could be a case of New Mom Worrier where she thinks dog sniffing baby = dog wants to eat baby. lol I think bringing your daughter is a great idea. That way you can look for signs of true aggression versus typical husky curiosity. If she's anything like my daughter, you probably WILL be bringing a new dog home today. |

| i really hope so lol i'm super excited and my daughter keeps asking when we will go haha. still waiting on them to get back to me with a time. we are going to meet at the dog park so we won't have to worry about any territorial behavior. the dog park is pretty empty most of the time so it will be a nice stress free area for them to meet.
one other question.... i really don't care for her current name of waya how hard is it to rename a dog? should we pick something that sounds close to her current name or can we pick anything we want as we did with dakota? Or are we just stuck with her name as is? |

| I hate when people do that. Only because I usually get my hopes up, and go nuts the entire time waiting! I've never renamed a dog, but I did with my cat, lol. Funny thing is, she comes when called most of the time unlike Lucian I'd try the same way I did with a puppy. Say the new name and if she responds to it, give her a treat. Also use the new name with any command you use, she should pick it up rather quickly. |

| How hard it is depends on how old she is... Not to say it can't be done, just might take a little longer. A good way to do it is when she looks at you, say "Dakota" - treat and praise. That way she will associate "Dakota" with looking to you. |

| so we met her and she's as adorable in person as i thought she would be. she's very talkative lol whining while i petted her coming up to ask to be petted etc. she got along with dakota to. he was up in her face puppy style and she tackled him lol and growled at him yet still chased and ran with him and sniffed the ground next to him etc. i think it would take a few days but she would get used to him. they played for an hour. katie went running by her and she didn't blink an eye. the jelousy thing i think is more of a prey drive thing after talking to the owner. when her son is on the ground the dog goes for him. but i think it's probly to sniff and play not really to attack based on what i saw today. Nothing that a little training won't fix.
so now we wait and see if they pick us. i told the kids not to get their hopes up so i don't have devistated kids on sunday if she says no to us. wish me luck lol |

| It's going to be so tough of their other dog if they're separating litter mates. Yikes, poor dogs. |

| aparently they were from the same litter but she had not found a new home yet. on a good note they emailed me this am and said we can have waya for a trial run this weekend to see if she meshes well with our lifestyle. so we are going to pick her up today around noon. i'm so excited aparently the other lady who was interested has a heeler type dog and they don't think the heeler would be able to stand up to the husky play style. I swear the cutest thing was when dakota and waya went into the play pose, butts in the air and heads on the ground lol then promptly raced around the dog park at mach 1 . |

| so the kids are home and aside from the random i'm in charge scuffle things are going well. but my pretty non barkie Dakota has dissapeared lol they are both barking up a storm while they work out who is in charge. any clue on how long that normally takes on average? I want to warn the neighbors we might be noisy for x time while they work it out. here's a pick of them begging to come back inside lol, they were getting too noisy and roudy for in the house so i told them to take it outside lol they went out stopped their fighting and stood at the door waiting to come back inside lol. |

| Awwww, Congrats!! It looks like new dog wants to play but Dakota wants her to know who is in charge. I think they will have things mostly sorted out fairly soon (a day or two) BTW, your daughter is cute. |

Awe! They look like they are getting along well. This seems to be a very good sign. I do agree it looks like Dakota is trying to show he is the man and the leader. And your daughter is adorable. She made me laugh when she was standing in front of the camera in the first video sticking her tongue out. |

| so last night and on and off today Waya has been asserting her dominance over Dakota. She's alpha rolled him at least 8 times and he just keeps coming back for more lol he's either really stupid or really stubborn.... i vote the latter lol while they were playing King of the box this afternoon he wouldn't get out of the box so she grabbed him by the tail and dragged him out , rolled him then they continued with tag untill he went back in the box lol. this evening went much better though. SHe's not getting on his case everytime i pet him now and is finally willing to let me pet both of them at the same time. If i'm petting him i had better be petting her too or he gets told off for being uppity lol. I think they should have this pretty much worked out in a couple more days a the most. things really improved after i walked them together , i don't have one of those links to hook them together yet so i just tied the two leashes together at an appropriate distance , hooked em up and they walked together like they had been doing it for years. they just put a pin in the dominance issue and enjoyed their walk... I have hope yet |

| Good luck with the two of them. And of course congrats.
We have had Kerian for about 6 months and Blaze and her still go at it rolling each other in trying to be Alpha. Blaze and Kerian are about the same age both are two years. We walk our two together all the time without a link to thingy. I think it would be hard with our two trying to play or wrestle every so often while walking. We pull them apart and correct them. |
