Rachel if it didn't come with it they might sell the dividers separately. Ours came with a divider so his crate is actually pretty huge but we have like a quarter of it still blocked off. Hoping in the next month we can call him potty trained and expand it completely for him. Crossing my fingers.

What Haley said about the dividers the crate I bought came with one and it's amazing. I'm certain that without it, Jack would go potty WAY MORE when inside the crate. It would be a good investment, Rachel!

Jack is 3 months and is around 20-25 pounds. After reading that someone gives their pup three cups of food a day, I feel like I'm underfeeding by only giving Jack around 2 cups a day. Will definitely have to increase his food intake, but I do give him treats throughout the day, a frozen carrot every few days, and a little cottage cheese in a meal sometimes.

As far as crating goes, Jack has no problem going in when it's time for bed! Bedtime is usually around 10 PM, sometimes a little later. I don't even have to say "crate," he will just go in on his own. He will wake me up during the night if he needs to go out and he will do his business and go back to bed with no problem. The issue is in the mornings. He will be up for the day around 7 or 8 AM and WILL NOT let me sleep in! I tend to lay in bed for quite a while after he falls asleep. Is he waking me up early because he's sleeping too much, or maybe because he's hungry? Something definitely needs to change, I just don't know what.

Another thing is if I ever have to go somewhere during the day, I put Jack in the crate and he just cries and cries and cries. I live in an apartment, so it's really difficult to keep him quiet. He has a blanket and two toys, one of which is a Kong, so I tend to put a treat inside to occupy him, but by the time I reach the door, I can hear him whining. When I come home, he's usually sleeping. Haven't left him in the crate longer than an hour. Also, Jack will cry to get out even if I'm six inches away from him! I just finished college so I'm home all the time now. Maybe he has separation anxiety? Anyone have any advice?

Sorry for the novel! Jack is my first husky and the first puppy I've had in a long time. OH and I haven't been properly exercising Jack (walks, runs, dog parks, etc.) because he doesn't have all of his puppy shots yet, I didn't want him to catch something, but that was all for naught because he ended up getting coccidia, just found out two days ago He's on medication, so now I REALLY can't take him out anywhere.

Klaus behaved the same way as Jack at that age. When he cries in his cage how do you handle it? Do you let him out? Do you ignore him?
As far as him crying when you leave he probably does it until he realizes no one is coming for him, and eventually gets the idea. Klaus used to cry when I left for work and would be sleeping when I get home as well. Now he just knows the routine and no longer cries. As far as sleeping in, haha good luck with that one! I haven't slept in past 8 maybe 9 since we got him. He's just up and ready to go at that point I don't think he can sleep anymore.
My suggestion would just be to do your best to tire him out before crating him, praising him for good crate behavior, and ignoring him when he is crying (unless he needs out in middle of the night). Persistence will get you there.

Sue Ellen, Jack has a lot of puppy energy. Give him time and he might settle. Some are early risers some are not. Remember exercise is based on age, so walks and such is limited anyways. 5 minutes for every month old, so for Jack a 15 minute walk may not burn that energy, even if you could walk him. What I did is do some training, this will tire mind and body. Maybe even some leash and training in house.....Try it before bed time and see if he sleeps a little longer, although, I will add you probably will not see a significant change until he is about 6 months old.....Quite often we still do some training with Miya prior to bedtime, especially on days where she didn't get enough exercise.

I had gotten the crate a few years back when we got Nala so Im not sure that it has come with dividers if so they are probably long gone UGH! He's been doing a little better since i can let him out for atleast an hour daily but it still happens every so often!

When he cries, I will ignore him until he calms down. I know not to give him attention when he's crying or else he will cry all the time, it's been getting better lately though!

Thank you so much Haley and Renee for the advice!! I'm going to start taking him out for walks everyday now that he's had all of his puppy shots Maybe it's better that he wakes me up early anyways so I don't waste away my day lol
