| Hey guys. My name is Motaz and I recently joined this great forum. My dog's name is shojo and his picture is on the left. I hope you guys can help me with this issue. I bought my dog when he was 6 months old and now he's a year and 3 months old. He's male, and he's got a problem ! I don't know if dogs have specific mating seasons in which they become sexually exited, but shojo is sexually excited all the time. There was not one friend who came over and Shojo didn't try to, well, have sex with them. Whenever he meets a new person he puts his hands on their legs and well, tries to have sex with them. What made me remember this issue is because tonight, just now 15 minutes ago before writing this post, I decided to pet him a bit before going to sleep, and then I decided to lie down cuz I was tired. Next thing I know, he's trying to have sex with me ! And I'm male ! Plus I'm the one who takes him running. Does this mean he doesn't see me as a pack leader ? We don't know what to do with him exactly. Some suggest castration ? But is that kool ? I mean isn't that really mean ? Others say just put him with a female dog for a week and let them go at it. He'll then come back home with no more sexual excitement. What do you guys think ? |

| Trust me when I say this, you have more attachments to his .. ahem .. manly parts than he does. It'll be a lot better for him when he gets neutered.
How do you / others react when he does start humping? That could also be a dominance issue.
I'd try to get him neutered first and see how much that curbs.

| Neutering will for sure help with his urges to hump, but may not stop it completely. My one year old is neutered and still humps like crazy. I correct it by telling him "NO"! I've never tried using a water bottle, but that maybe something you could consider using as well. I would definitely get him neutered as soon as possible, you don't need him to accidentally knock a female dog up.

| I highly suggests getting him neutered as well. You don't want him mating with a female and then impregnating her. That would just cause an unnecessary litter of puppies. Castrating him would be your best bet, and it will be a healthier choice for your dog as well. |

| i also say get him neutered, and remember it will take a few weeks or a month or so for all the testosterone to be out of his system. DO NOT stick him with a female, that will not solve his issue!!!!! also start correcting the behavior when he does mount people. with a firm NO pull him off the person nicely, dont hurt him. and keep it up every time, you can also try spraying him with a water bottle as well and again firmly say NO, the water works on some and others could care less about it. _________________ |

| Neutering is definitely a good thing to do. It might not fix the humping, since that's sometimes about dominance rather than sexual urges. |

| I believe in spay/neutering of all dogs. We have far to many unwanted dogs and cats in the world. Plus it is healthier for them in the long run. As far as the humping, it will help, but it may not stop it completely. Humping is more of a dominance issue then a sexual issue. Balon will still hump our lab occasionally while they are playing. He is the alpha here and I guess he feels the need to remind her on occasion lol. He has thankfully never humped a human. Our lab used to hump my sons when she was a puppy, when she was spayed it stopped and she hasn't done it since. I would definitely get him neutered asap, and keep telling him no when he attempts to hump.

| When you say he tried to have sex with you and you a male made me laugh so hard. I really can't stop laughing lol Truth be told I know this dog who is Neutered and he still hump. He even hump other male dogs lol. The owner just tell him NO every time and slowly his humping less. Now backing to me laughing again |

| Neutering can help. My friend has a 7 year old golden rescue and he would hump any dog he saw. They got him fixed soon after getting him (at age 7) and he's completely stopped trying to hump other dogs.
But I do know of a dog who was neutered and still humps other dogs.
Pretty much one was doing it because of hormones and the other because he's wants to be dominant. Neutering will probably help a lot and then if he continues, just teach him a cue like "leave it" and let him know that humping is not allowed! _________________ -Sara |

| Hey guys Sorry for the late reply I got really busy with college and exams. Although I would love to reply to everyone in specific replies, but everyone who replied to this thread recommended to get the dog neutered. So I guess I'll will do that. I just hope it's not that expensive. But how long does the the neutering process itself take? (like how many days will he be at the doctor, or vet to be more exact) And the fact that the humping issue could also be a dominance issue, I never knew that. It does make sense though. I don't know if using a water bottle would work because he is given a shower everyday and he doesn't seem to mind it. Well, time to leave to college and hopefully find a good parking spot. Thank you guys for you help, you guys are cool |

| If you take him to the vet first thing in the morning he should be out of there that evening at the earliest. |

| Hey, there is a thread here about what to expect after a dog gets neutered. It relates to practices in North America, but it should be more or less the same thing for you. Here's the link: https://www.itsahuskything.com/t6874-what-to-expect-with-neuter-surgery-recovery?highlight=neuterAs for the water thing - it's more for a surprise thing than to actually get him wet. The surprise he will feel when you spray the water on him will usually work to give his mind a little jolt and hopefully break out of the humping long enough for you to correct it / reward for stopping. |

| Thank you Gunnersmatejmac and UndarthAngipoo. By the way UndarthAngipoo, the link is very helpful, thank you so much ! The only obstacle now is convincing my father. He believes it is inhumane, but I'll try to persuade him from the sense that it is actually healthy for the dog. Thank you everybody for your help and cooperation |
