| Hi guys,
My 11 week old was suffering with the runs so the vet advised a 24 hour fast then to go on rice, pasta eventually with some chicken, then start mixing her dry food in with the rice.i have done the following:
1) 24 hour fast with plenty of water 2) one day of just rice with juice from the cooked chicken 3) one day rice with a tiny bit if cooked chicken 4) the last 2 days 1/2 rice 1/2 dry food (initially with a dollop of natural yoghurt) dry food is of high quality.
However her poos have gone back to super slushy again (although not liquid)
Any suggestions??? |

| Add Pumpkin to the diet a table spoon on so. This will add fiber to the diet. |

| We were having that issue recently too. Since he was fine on the bland diet and it started right up again once we started back on his old food we decided to try a food change. Worked wonders for us. What do you have him on now? |

| Adding pumpkin is great and will help a lot, but try removing any grain from the equation. Instead of chicken and rice, try eggs, green beans, and carrots. We had the same problem when Ghost was about that age, and we were giving her I think 3 scrambled eggs 4 times per day with about a half cup each of raw green beans and carrots. She firmed up in less than a day, and we introduced a grain free kibble at that point and haven't had any problems since. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Pumpkin works great for us too. I give Yukon a tablespoon full once a day especially since he has just transitioned foods. I still give some to Nikko too, he had very runny poo’s from the time I got him until he was almost 6 months old! I have to buy a can of pumpkin every time I go shopping! |

| Thanks guys!
Only trouble is cant find canned pumpkin anywhere in the UK, can get it on amazon but it's pretty expensive for shipping etc but I have ordered some to see how we get on.
Will defs try carrots as she loves them and I've given her scrambled egg once why h she also loves. She is on rice and 1/2 cup wainwrights puppy (2-18 months) dry food 3 times a day. |

| Wow, so weird! Do you guys not make pumpkin pie over there? LOL It’s right in the baking goods isle at the grocery store here, but it’s right next to pumpkin pie filling, which is a no-no! I guess pie filling will make it worse because of the sugars and stuff in it, but im not willing to try |

Any fiber substitutes for it? Squash will do just as well, acorn, butternut, hubbard, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acorn_squash http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butternut_squash http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bluehubbardsquash.JPG Here in the states squash can be found in the frozen food vegetable section. Even if you found pumpkin pie don't feed it to much junk included just plain pumpkin is what you would use. |

| So glad I've seen this, I've brought my 10 week old home and changed her diet for the cheap nasty stuff her breeder had her on. She now has poo's like brown water :-( I can never find pumpkin either in the UK! I don't think we're as big a fan of it ha!
I will try some small carrots in her kibble tonight! |

| I would imagine boiled eggs would work just as well. It's possible that your sibe has an intolerance to grains which is in the Exceed dog food (not sure about the Blue Buffalo) you're feeding him. |

| Yes, boiled eggs worked the same as scrambled for Kody. Is the BB duck grain free (wilderness formulas) ? I think it is, but I'm not sure. Kody can NOT tolerate grains, but BB Wilderness (chicken & salmon) still gave him the runs even though it's grain free. I would try feeding him eggs, carrots (or green beans) for a few days and slowly introduce the BB again. If his poop goes soft then it's the food. We put Kody on Orijen and he did great, but it's pricey. He also did great on Wellness CORE (grain free) and now he's on Acana. |

| If you can find squash, you can peel and cut up the squash until it is tender then mash it up. Or, cut in half, scoop out the seeds and bake it in a 350 degree oven for about 30-45 minutes, or until soft, depending on how big the squash it. No seasoning or oil. When it's cooled, scoop out the flesh and toss out the skin.
If you have eliminated grains and you still have soft poop, you may want to take longer to transition your pup back to their previous kibble. If they still have soft poop when adding back kibble, there's is something in that kibble that does not agree with your pup's tummy. I'm assuming that the previous kibble is also grain free. If not, try finding a grain free dry dog food to try and transition to their diet from the bland diet of hard boiled or scrambled eggs and carrots (or green beans or green peas).
Some huskies, like my female, takes up to 4 weeks to fully transition to a new food. Switching any faster, her poop will go very soft!

| Oh! Forgot to add:
Adding too much pumpkin (or squash) can have the opposite effect, so instead of firming their poop, it will make it softer. So be mindful of how much you add. You also want to make sure that you don't use pumpkin as a 'band aid' to firm up their stool. If their tummy does not agree with a certain dry dog food, don't put a band aid over the issue and add pumpkin to firm up their stool. Use pumpkin to help them along, but you will need to find a food that does not upset their tummy.
Same with plain non fat yogurt. While this is very good to help promote the healthy bacteria in their digestive tract, you don't want to make it to where they have to have yogurt so that they produce the healthy bacteria in their digestive tract to digest their food.

| Wel neither Exceed or BB firm up my dogs poop
He was sick recently and game him royal canin, witch did firm up his pop, also when we left him with a friend they ran out of food and gave him some of the more cheap stuff (Beneful or Pedigree, dont remember) and hes feces firmed up.
I think my dog is the "hot dog & fries" eating kind... |

Hello! Should I also "transition" my husky from this to his dog food kibble? |

| I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who posted in this thread about the eggs, yogurt, pumpkin, green beans and carrots. I just switched Juneau from Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream Puppy Formula to the All Stages version. Granted, I did not "gradually" change it like I should have. I honestly thought it wouldn't make that much of a difference. Long story short, she did fine for a week, then all of a sudden had sloppy poops. I even woke up to her with diarrhea in her cage one morning. I started her on the egg/green beans/pumpkin diet last night and this morning. She pooped earlier and it was firm! I didn't think I'd get so excited about poop. I think Sunday I will start adding in her kibble and go from there. Thank you guys so much. I felt so bad for her. |

Hi i had a question! I was doing the egg / carrot / green bean thing for probably about 3 days, his poop was firm and it worked, so then I started to introduce a little kibble and then slowly add more kibble and less carrot/green beans... for the past two or three feeding sessions I've been trying to ween him off the carrot and green beans so there were only a few and mostly kibble. Aspen's poop is mushy again with more kibble... Does that mean my food (Orijen) is too high in protein? I was happy with the progress of firmer poop but now it's back to mushy and it's a let down any thoughts? should I stop Orijen all together and try something else? |
