Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hello everyone!

My name is Jenn and my husband and I were recently rescued by a great big goofy boy by the name of Baron. He is a shelter puppy so his background is unknown, but the vet described him as a 10 month old Husky/Mastiff cross. He is already 65 pounds, so we'll see how large he gets.

This is him:

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter to us what he is. What matters is that we know how to care for him correctly and stimulate him properly. Assuming he is part husky, well-- I've never had huskies before, only an Aussie and I'm not sure what sort of mentality/traits are yet to come.

I know my husband and I are going to have questions along the way, so here's hoping I can merge with this community for Baron's benefit!

Welcome! Nice to see another Illinoisan join up Smile I grew up in Urbana but my folks live near Plainfield now. Baron is adorable, and we're all happy to answer questions and help with the Husky shenanigans!

Hello and welcome! He is huge.. I have a friend who has a bull mastiff and he is quite large so maybe if you have any questions about that part of him I'd be more than happy to ask her what she does for her Max Smile

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone! Tiffany, it's great to see you here too. Very Happy

Out of curiosity, I am considering writing out Baron's progress every few days and asking questions along the way. Is there a particular subforum that would be appropriate, or would it be wiser to make new topics with the specific questions? Thanks!

I grew up in Joliet and lived in Fox Lake and Grayslake most of my life. Great dog parks and forest preserves in Lake County. Welcome! Enjoy your pup!

Well my life is complete.

I have now seen a Brindle Husky.

Baron is terribly cute.

Husky, Mastiff, Turtle, or Hedgehog you are more then welcome to this little corner of the interwebs.

Welcome to you all again,
~Chris~

If your including pictures I would do it in the

Scrapbook Section

Or

If you plan on going really overboard with pictures the

52 Weeks Section.

If your just planning on keeping a text type update General or Training should be more then fine.

Thank you for the input! I actually rather suck at taking pictures of him right now-- he's still in the habit of getting into everything and when we're on leash, I'm between corrections and praise. Hopefully I'll be getting more pictures of him though. Very Happy

I decided to give this whole blogging thing a try so today I started setting up a wordpress. That way I can keep track of his progress and when I have questions on specific things, I can find answers here.
