| Hey everyone!! I am adopting a dilute red and white 2y/o boy this Friday. I just wanted to get a few suggestions on what is needed from the start and recommended brands for these pups! Very excited as I had to leave my husky shepherd with parents when moving to college.

| Hopefully you'll never need it, but make sure he's chipped and that you can change the ownership; if he's not, then think seriously about getting him chipped asap.
And don't forget to send some pictures our way - seems as if there are never enough. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Ditto what Al said. Alsop - bedding? Honestly, many of them tend to eat, shred or otherwise destroy bedding. I bought the big boy a nice bed - he and his "nephew," Archer, used it as a tuggie toy. He is now very happy on a "bedroll" consisting of a moving blanket folded into quarters with an assortment of old towels on top. Collars - I use a nylon web metal buckle collar for his tags and a prong collar for leash walking. I swear by the rok bungee leash - when he lunges (not so much any more, thankfully), it has some stretch - saves my shoulder and doesn't jam so much on his neck. BUT, the rok leash is on 54" so I attached another, longer leash to it to make a long, 13" walking leash - but if you are in urban/suburban environment and need to keep dog close for his and others safety, the rok will be fine by itself - it has a traffic lead for tight places. I feed Taste of the Wild, the bison and venison flavor with 32% protein. Makes easy to pick up poop (sorry for the graphics ) A kong is a wonderfully durable toy - only toy that has lasted since we got the big boy almost 2 years ago. Good luck - enjoy your boy. And pics, please |

| Awesome replies guys. His name is Cider now but considering changing to Kygo, Kilo (I'm a weightlifter), or Kokanee (old dog friend.. Would use "Koka") pic below! He is chipped so that is #1 this weekend getting the info changed over. I planned to transition him to TOTW. Unfortunately, he hardly ate at his last adopters and is around 30lbs..very skinny. Will beef him up slowly with high protein wet food, pb, coconut oil and transition slowly with TOTW (using natures variety(?) now). Plan to price vetbeds tomorrow but will use old blankets for the time being. My husky shepherd tore every thing in sight his first few months with us! https://i.imgur.com/T4KHmSt.jpg |

| While Cider is a bit unusual (but understandable considering his color) I like the sound of "Koka" - especially if you're in a city somewhere (think in terms of drugs "Coca")
I agree he's a handsome boy and at 30 pounds he's underweight - but bear in mind that we're talking Husky's here and they're notorious for being on the slim side (actually healthier on the slim side) depending on how tall he is you might want to watch how much weight he puts on.
Bedding - while my two haven't destroyed their bedding, they don't use it very often either. It seems to end up moving from place to place but rarely slept on. Sasha sleeps on the hard (cool tile) floor and Avalanche is normally on the floor (carpet) beside me. I wouldn't invest a lot in a bed until you see how he does with the blanket ....
Feeding, this is arguable but make sense to me. If you're feeding him a mix of wet and dry food do it in two meals separated by 6 - 8 hours. Wet food / raw food / kibble are all going to digest at different rates. I know some here mix them, but I personally would not. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
