He somehow found one on the floor in my room, I never knew it was there. I feel awful. I called the emergency vet and they said it may pass, it may not, and to give him a piece of bread to help. If it doesn't pass in the morning I'm gonna take him to my vet. Anyone have any suggestion or anything? I saw it in his mouth and when I went to open his mouth to grab it he must have swallowed it.

Bread and time. Keep a very close eye on him. Only time will tell. Anything out of the ordinary like blood in his stool, vomiting or diarrhea and I would call the vet immediately. Good luck :-( sending good vibes your way.

I've called 2 different emergency vets and both said the bread should help move it along. They told me to keep a very close eye on him and if I notice any issues or symptoms to take him to the vet. So I'll see how he is in the morning. He gobbled the bread right up so I'm hoping it'll pass ok. He's sleeping in his crate right now, seems ok. I'm so worries. I feel terrible that this happened. I hope it passes ok in the morning.

I remember reading something about if your dog eats something sharp, dip some cotton in gravy or something tasty and let your dog eat it. The cotton should wrap around the sharp object and help it along.

I remember that too Sarah. Not sure if that should be done in addition to bread?

Yeah, I don't know. Seems like the bread would break down though and cotton wouldn't while it's passing through.

Well he just woke me up real quick and I brought him outside and so far all seems well. When I picked him up and held him he showed no signs of pain or anything. I didn't see his pee but I don't think there was blood in it. He pooed and it was a bit runny, but it has been a bit runny all day. I introduced pork a couple days ago so I'm sure he's still adjusting to it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he'll be ok!

I think we've all been there at some point.

Pippa swallowed half of one of those foldable frisbees at the dog park one time before I could get it away from her.

That was a good time...

Hope all is well and he passes it easily!

Just pooped again. It was a bit more solid. Didn't see blood. No signs of pain.

Well good news, I don't know if it was pooped out or if he just dropped it in his crate last night when I put him in, but I found the thumb tack in his crate this morning. It looks like there are a couple small pieces of poo around it, but the tack is clean. Either way, it's not in his system and his poop this morning was not bloody, just runny (which that could be from the 2 pieces of bread last night) all seems well now. Thankfully.

You will be surprised what they will eat! Good to hear that it came out all right. My Nikko loves to get the squeakers out of his toy and swallow them. I am always watching him but a couple weeks ago I did not see him swallow it, and I woke up to him gagging and he threw it up.

Yukon tore one of his plush toys and ate the entire fabric of it, and threw that up one morning!
