My Loki has begun to embarrass me immensely in public. I took him to petsmart three times now since he started lifting his leg. the first two times he peed on just about everything. He is fully house broken and we haven't had any issues there but i assume that because of all the other dog smells he treats it kind of like the dog park and has to mark stuff. Then today while at the dog park he walked right up to a guy whose German Shepard he was playing with and lifted his leg and peed right on this guy. I have never been so embarrassed in my life. He has tried this one other time only it was me he tried to mark and i was holding a puppy at the time which he was not very happy about and i assumed he tried to mark me because he is my baby and though maybe that would make the puppy go away. He is intact so i have a feeling in public places like petsmart i may have to deal with this problem but i really don't want him marking perfectly nice people at the dog park. Any suggestions?

As the guy who always gets pissed on at the dog park..... It's fair game. I've never let it bother me... I just go home and wash my pants.

I know it's never fun to be the owner of the dog who does it, but it just kind of happens (to me a lot!).


You can, and should, correct it if you see it. A simple HEY or NO should be enough to stop a stream.

You could also try and reaffirm where he should be eliminating and just praise or reward him if he pees in an acceptable location at the dog park, or before going into pet smart.

They can also learn to pee on command if they have to. Tika will most of the time, and all I had to do to train it was simply saying GOOD PEE when she did it anywhere. Now Tika Pee makes her squat.

Apart from that a good "Snip Snip" will most of the time reduce the amount he marks, but that's up to you in the end.

My boy is neutered and he still pees at Petco. I do think getting him neutered will help you alot.

I agree with Chris you to need to correct him when he does it saying NO or HEY or something to let him know it was not acceptable.

I did yell no, he was not near me at the time but i could see him do it, unfortunately my boyfriend thinks Loki walks on water and finds complete humor in all my frustrations with his marking problems, he was practically laughing his hind end off while he apologized to the guy at the dog park while i was chasing Loki down. I knew correcting him after the fact would do no good but a little while later he tried marking a bench right next to where a guy was sitting, I'm assuming he didn't get the older gentleman who was sitting there as nothing was said to me but after that incident i put Loki on his leash and made him sit quietly with me at a bench for about ten minuets before he got to go play again. I was just so embarrassed.
