Use to race when I lived in WI. Did lots of dryland, skijoring, and four dog sprint. Sold my racing sled to get some cash for grad school. The part of IL I moved to is awful, and I have not found any place to run the dogs. Kept a small wooden sled, so I hope I find somewhere to go! All the trails close to our house are paved. My dogs seem sad.

Aww I'm sorry, Melissa! I hope you find some where to run. I can't imagine not being able to run my dogs...I don't even want to think about it.
Len, that's a start! What kind of sled did you get?

Just a 2 dog kick sled, still enjoy the heck out of it though. The scooter is a blast also.

Ok I have to say I now feel better that I'm not the only one that has an issue with the dogs tangling each other up. It's so frustrating trying to keep 3 untangled, now this year we'll have 4 to keep untangled!

Hi,
I've been mushing for just over 16 years here in the UK. Unfortunately, because of our climate and the lack of long distance trails, most of our racing is short distance dryland sprinting. As a result I do very few races (or "rallies" as we call them) and enjoy training the dogs much more. Here are a few pix of some of my dogs in action:
This one's my son running a two-dog team in his first ever race
Very occasionally we get snow and make the most of it

Aw Mick, that looks like too much fun!
Len - you're lucky that Biko and Adobo will at least get out front!
I'm jealous!
I have 2, one adopted last August and the other adopted this past April. I'm going to attempt to skijor with them this winter and hope to be successful!
I have a scooter, but when we adopted Storm in April, he was way overweight and so we had to work through that first before we could run him. Now that we've gotten 30 lbs off him and he's been running some, we'll see if he'll run out in front.
We attempted scooterig with Ginger a couple of times, but she seems to prefer to run along side me while i'm on the scooter, unless hubby is in front on his bike, then she'll want to run next to him (on occasion)...so we're working on it.

Hey Mick! I think I recognize you from Husky Owners... Awesome pictures!

You'll definitely want something with wide tires for running on the beach. The rig in the pictures above wouldn't work in the sand. I can't think of any like that at the moment...all of the ones I know of have skinny bike-type tires.

Jenn if I'm able to stand on the scooter when its moving then anyone should be capable of it. If you can ride a bike you can scooter even easier. I was amazed how easy it was and didn't even think about it once I was going.

come on over Jenn! there's nothing to riding a scooter! but if S&J get in a groove and take off, you might want to start off with one first so you can get a feel of how you need to stop.
when I had Ginger hooked up, and hubby was out in front, and she got in a groove, it was WAY fun when she actually started pulling me!

Have one dog. Been skatejouring all summer with her with a skateboard. Actually just got rollerblades a few days ago and been using those. So much easier lol. Gonna try skijouring with her once we get snow. She seems to love it alot. And might try a race someday in the distant future with her just to try it.

Hey folks - awesome forum here! I have 10 dogs, up in Yukon Territory, Canada. Used to race with the sled & skijoring, but haven't for the last couple of years... kind of lost the excitement racing so now we're just in it for the FUN. Which it has been. And now I'm thinking of getting back in the skijoring races... we'll see. I have 2 youngsters who are CRAZY and would be fun to race with.
You all have some beautiful dogs!!!

1.5 dog bikejoring!! Why 1.5? I only have Niko in a harness, but I attach our labrador with a neckline to get Niko above a fast walk/slow trot!! I'll be ordering a 2nd harness once I've been back to work a little longer and have some extra $$.
