I live in Los Angeles, hoping to adopt this beautiful six month old old husky named Sky tomorrow. I was hoping if someone could tell me what color she is? Is she copper or light red?Hello from Los Angeles QUESTION 344sgheHello from Los Angeles QUESTION 33ldsaoHello from Los Angeles QUESTION 2lc2r9k

She looks light red to me, but that could change. Tika was light red when she was little but now she's more sable. Either day she's beautiful Smile
Good luck, keep us posted if you get her! She'll take a lot of work but is always worth it!

Welcome, she is a real beauty and and hoping you can get her. Then the fun begins..

I say she is a light red. But like Tika said they can change colors as they get older.. Blaze was a light red when we got him at 9 months he is now two and he is a copper with his first coat blow he got darker.

Now Kerian is a light red she blew her coat this summer and there some gray mixed with the red now.

Thank you guys for the response. I haven't gone to see her yet. What are some pros and cons of adopting a 7 month old husky over a 3 month old husky in your opinion?

The main pro favoring a 7 month old over a 3 month old I'd say is potty training - 3 months old can't hold it in as long. 7 month olds can also handle longer walks and more exercise, and with 3 months old you'll have to wait to get rabies shots and spaying , where as a 7 month old could already be spayed and have all the shots - ready to go to the dog park! Just my opinion anyway xD

Kale and I welcome you from California Cool

As for a 3 month old or 7 month old, it depends. One is still in the "puppy stage" and the other is in the "teenage phase" lol. It all depends on which "phase" you want to deal with Embarassed

Welcome! as others have said i would go with a light red with the chance of the coat going either direction of color as she ages.
i would go 7 month cause i want nothing to do with the puppy stage Razz but thats me! are you active, are you hoping to be active with this husky? at 7months your wait is shorter to get her working at a yr of age Smile if you dont care for sleep or potty training or waiting to do things with the pup go with the 3month old. either age will give you plenty of time to form a bond Smile we got our girl at 6 and our bond is as strong as if we would have gotten her as a puppy Smile the heart knows no age.

PostSubject: Re: Hello from Los Angeles QUESTION   Hello from Los Angeles QUESTION EmptyTue Oct 23, 2012 8:40 pm

Hey Guys!

I finally got her Smile Her owners said that she was always tied up out side at their home. When we brought her home she didn't pee or poop for almost 24 hrs =/ They told me that she always used the bathroom in one spot in the yard and never on walks. I wonder if this will mean potty training will be easier? Well I live in an apartment without a yard but I live right next to this large dog park called Silver Lake which is right next to an artificial lake. I took her there yesterday and she had so much fun. She was the only dog in her previous home. It was crazy because she started humping another female dog while they were playing. What does this mean? Yes, I used to run a lot in high school, and haven't since I moved to los angeles for college. I can't wait to get her out and running!

so did you get Sky? sorry i know you were looking at 2 huskies, hope you got the red gal Smile all of us with adopted or rescued huskies will tell you there is a transition period for the dog to settle in at the new home, some times its short sometimes its months, her not going to the bathroom is normal for now, but if it goes for over a day or so keep an eye on her, are you feeding what they had her on? the humping is her trying to be dominate to the other dog. since she did not have much interaction with other dogs this might happen, try to redirect her attention somewhere else. it might take the other dog telling her its not ok for her to understand that its not a good thing. cant wait to see more pictures! congrats

Yay! A new Blue Buffalo feeder! My two were fed Blue Buffalo chicken recipe puppy, then Wilderness puppy, and next I'm trying Lamb puppy food because even though its such a good food, they really don't like the taste. Hoping the lamb works, but if not its Taste of the Wild for them xD

Linda, your right that last pic of blaze could be jack! Jack is just missing the dark marks under his eyes. As for coats, jack stays copper all yr long, sierra at a lighter red will change with the season, lighter in the summer, darker in the winter. She also keeps her snow nose all season, jack only gets his in the winter.

I love the reds...lighter...darker... It really doesn't matter! We've got a few "separated at birth" coppers on this forum. Perhaps Sky will darken up and become their newest "sister"!

Congrats on your new addition!

Thats great! I'm so happy she got a home with you.
I think the humping thing was a dominance issue as well. Running with her will be alot of fun, you'll have to wait a few months until she is about a year old though. I run with our 2 and its fun/crazy. Keep a good hold on that leash! I tie mine around my waist since if they see a squirrel, its game over for me, but at my waist I have more control to pull back. That and they cant dislocate my shoulder if they take off suddenly.
Please keep us posted on how it goes, rescues are worth the time they take to open up. It took Ripley about 2 months before we started to see her true colors, and we wouldnt trade her for the world now.

Give Sky some time to get used to her new environment, she will start a routine. You are so lucky to have a park right next door! We love our park, but its 10 minutes down the highway.

Good luck and keep us up to date, and photos please!

Kelly

Hello from Los Angeles QUESTION Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hello from Los Angeles QUESTION   Hello from Los Angeles QUESTION EmptyThu Nov 08, 2012 5:09 am

Hey guys!
She has started to settle in. She was never crate trained and we are starting her off but theres a big problem. SHE BREAKS OUT OF IT ALMOST EVERY TIME. And she only does it when we're gone. It is a large plastic kennel I bought from someone off craigslist, 40 inches by 29 or so. She literally picks at the gate edges until it unlocks. And today we came home she busted the side of the cage off of its tracks and got out. Luckily the lights were off and she didn't destroy anything. Last time she got out while we were out and chewed up hair extensions, personal mementos, made a pile of random things on thee floor! I think she has separation anxiety. Any suggestions? I take her with me sometimes in car rides but i dont think that helps much.

Try the wire crates... I have found those to work great with my escape artist.
