| It is with a sad heart that I inform you all that Callie has a severe case of selective hearing. Poor girl.
This is my sarcastic way of saying I hate the teenager stage. Yesterday at the dog park, Cal was munching happily on the grass but I don't let her do that. Especially not at the dog park. So I called her name. Normally she is so excited to have my attention she'll run over and expect treats and praise and love! I thought she just had a great recall. Yeah. Not so much. She didn't so much as twitch her ears to acknowledge that she heard me and was just ignoring me.
So I tested it a few more times while I was at the park. Called her name while she was off on her own sniffing and exploring. Didn't get an ear twitch, a tail wag, or anything. At this point, I'm pulling a new mom and panicking. "Omg what if she really can't hear me? Is she really deaf? She does respond better to her hand signals than vocal commands..."
But then we got home and she was upstairs as I started preparing her dinner. I don't think the measuring cup even had kibble in it yet and she was by my side sitting like a good girl. I guess she's not deaf to the sound of food.
Oh, and I had to physically chase her down and practically tackle her when it was time to leave the park. Unbelievable! She never ignores me! Are we sure she's not part Husky?
Okay, opening the floor. Share your stories of times when your precious pups have suffered from that terrible Selective Hearing disease. |

| Mine is also going through a terrible case of selective hearing. Sometimes I wonder is: 1) she actually knows her own name 2) she has gone deaf |

| Selecting hearing is running rampant in my household right now. With the newest addition being in the middle of her teenage phase, it seems to be rubbing off on Steele. Not only am I getting selective hearing from Jenna, but I'm also getting that look from her when I demand her attention. Then of course there's Steele who gets jealous of her and then ignores every one of my commands until I end up snapping at him.
My house is like a circus. A deaf circus. |

| Oh i know this phase all too well, I love how they will ignore everything until a slight movement even towards the kitchen. Then they are right there acting like the best kids in the world, just waiting for a treat. LOL |

| Juneau is the same way. I've learned how to fix this in the yard, but not the dog park. Sometimes she gives me a hard time in the yard, especially in the morning when I want to leave for work and she doesn't.
We have a fenced in yard with a patio. When I want Juneau inside, I open the door and say, "Juneau, come! Come, Juneau!" Then she just stares at me like I'm a moron. I'll honestly stand there for about 2-3 minutes just calling her, patting my leg, and motioning her inside. I get tired of that, so I go back inside and get a treat, and 90% of the time it works. If the treat doesn't, then I get the whole bag and shake it lol. Now that she learns she gets a treat every time she comes in, she comes in. Not so much in the morning. lol
I won't bring treats to the dog park for various reasons, so I just have to deal with that one lol. |
