| Welcome to the teenage years of a husky! I wish I could say that it was going to get better, but it's only going to get worse before it does.
Make sure to give him as much exercise as you can and if he has separation anxiety, I would start working with him now! Crate training is seriously the happiest compromise when owning a husky. If you need help, check out the threads on crate training so far and post more questions! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Get him a friend. Either they'll wear each other out, or things will get twice as bad! Seriously, when we brought Isis home for Nanuk, he settled down a bit after awhile. They wore each other out playing! However, the one time we forgot to close the bedroom door, they made quite a mess in there with the paperback they found. Confetti heaven! |

| the crate will be your BEST friend! i even stopped leaving snipers bed in her crate b/c during the day she was getting bored and tearing the stuffing out of it! so no bed anymore! or a sheet....tried that and she just tore the sheet up too! she stays in there when she is actually in her crate with a rubber toy and a rawhide :-) good luck! |

| Het firefighter we have a similar issue with Kiera wanting to rip anything stuffed to shreds, We found an awesome bed at PetSmart with a Kong label on ( its about $60 for a ~ 2.5 x 3 foot bed) and guess what, she tried gnawing at it at first and now she sleeps in it and it never tore. Albeit their only 3 1/2 months old, but They have ripped apart a lot of other items , most recently my wifes leather golves ( I thinks shes almost dont pooing out the remnants) LOL. I swear tat dog has Pica!! |

| Aaaahhh....teenage destruction time! LOL Nothin' like it! Evo throws himself down in his kennel to lay down and broke his plastic tray. He also ate through the linolium under the kennel and we had to pull the stove out and replace the piece from there. THEN, Evo did a similar act when we put a wooden floor in his kennel and covered it with peel and stick tile to make raw chicken clean up easier. See pic for what happened to tile: So yes, kenneling is best and not surprising if they destroy beds or anything else that might be fun. We've taken to using zip ties on his door latch because he's figured out how to open it. That's cost us eyeglasses, eyeglass cases, a remote control, two library books, three dog brushes and a pen. Yay for destructive behavior! |

| hahaha.. wow. i knew having a husky would be hard, but after hearing all of your stories im afraid what of whats gonna happen next. he was probably alone like 2 or 3 hours. and the thing is he was digging it up. like there was something there. but its not like hes just confined to that one little spot, he has a doggie door that leads to our deck for him to run and play on. its gonna be bad when he digs threw the deck and ends up getting stuck under it. the kennel thing is definately an idea we should try, i just kinda feel bad for him, and I KNOW he will use the bathroom in their everytime. and ALSO, he dug another hole in their yesterday. haha, lets just say my parents are extremly angry with him right now.
thank you all for your help. Does anyone know where the cheapest place to get a crate is, and what size would be the best. ?? |

| Crating is not cruel, I promise Huskies are known for being destructive and the crate (if trained properly) will be his safe place and it won't feel like punishment. He actually shouldn't use the bathroom in the crate at all. It's a very common method to help with potty training because dogs will not go where they sleep. I would get a crate that has an adjustable panel. iCrate by Midwest has a model that's average priced and works great for our two. He's a male, so I would go with the 42" long crate to be sure it's the right size. You should have the panel adjust enough so he can walk in, turn around and lie down. No bigger, no smaller. You can get this type of crate from PetSmart, PetCo or your local petstore. With the coupons PetSmart has sometimes, they can often be the cheapest. Not to sound mean, but you SHOULD be afraid of what happens next. The teenage years are when huskies are most commonly surrendered. That's why discipline, boundaries, and getting him used to the crate NOW will be your best bet. There should be some crate training threads already started, so read up on those first and if you have more questions, reply to those or start a new one if none have been started yet Good luck! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Crate training is a MUST!!! Evo is happiest with his rope toy in his crate and no bed. He only had accidents in his crate when he had an upset tummy and it's been a long time since the last accident (knocking on wood). I definitely agree with a 42" long, 30" high kennel - we've gone taller since Evo is part Dane but that is the perfect amount of space. All Evo does in his kennel is sleep - especially now that he can't open the kennel! He used to howl/scream/cry but now just lays down in it. He eats there and sometimes he'll just go in there to chill out. Don't worry about feeling bad for him - it's either that or you'll be so pissed off with the destruction you'll want to get rid of him. Crates are best for everyone involved! |

| haleyh,
The crate is the best option i PROMISE! Sniper would potty in her crate at first but then she learned to hold it. We only leave a rope toy and a bone in there. Its the best place for them to be. Sniper was eating electrical cords, socks, towels, rags, etc! now that she is in the crate during the day and at night time only. she is free when we are at home but still has to be watched like a friggin hawk! We have learned the hard way as well. so please care enough for your boy to crate train him. If you have ne more questions the guys and gals on here are awesome for advice! |

| I agree with the crate! I thought they were horrible at first and *vowed* to never EVER use such cruel things... Well. After some drywall, a door, directTV cables and satellite, clothes, laundry baskets, and a few other things were destroyed... we decided it was time to give in to the crate! Honestly, my dogs wouldn't give them up if i tried to take them away!
They really are life savers. |

| Angery might not be the word, Chenook and Luna will try to dig out when left confined to our bedroom alone but give them the run of the house, and their fine. While we have never crated our Sibs it might be what you need. our digging stemed from not wanting to be alone. |

| We got a crate for Mika when we first brought her home, due to her spay surgery and the other two huskies we already had at home (she needed to stay quiet when she first got home). My hubby got it on Craigslist for $35 and it's one of the bigger crates. We never crated Nanuk & Isis. Mika let us know, about a week after we brought her home, that she was done with the crate by moving it across the dining room while we were gone. So, we kept her in the bedroom, since she still needed to be seperated for awhile. Well, she decided she was tired of being alone & jumped the 1/2 door we have up between the bedroom and hallway. She wanted to play with her brother & sister! We keep them in the kitchen, and other than a few shredded paper towels we left on the counter, no issues (yet). I think having each other for company helps keep them occupied! So, try Craigslist, it can't hurt! Good luck, and don't lose heart! Patience! |
