So my puppy just turned 9 months old, and just days before we started noticing some changes in his behavior. He's not walking as calmly, he's mouthy again, he's restless at bedtime some nights...and he's just plain old bratty at times. I'm pretty sure this can all be attributed to him entering the so-called teenage period. The one thing we can't seem to understand, is his new issues with bedtime. Haven't had any issues with sleeping since he was 4 months old, and generally things are still good. Qannik has recently started to become obsessed with being under our bed. Problem is, is that he started chewing electrical cords, and the underneath part of our mattress. We've blocked off as much of under the bed as we can. But he still insists on sneaking in whereever he can find a whole. Then he lies in that space whining and whimpering. He just can't settle down. It's a little nerve wracking but I'm just hoping it's a minor bump in the road. Has anyone else every experienced anything similar?

can you go back to creating him in your room at night? best option is to keep him out of your room till bed time and make sure he cant get under there no matter what! it most likely is just a "bump" and hopefully he will grow out of it before to much damage is done

We have a crate as a last resort if necessary. We were just hoping to not have to use one again as our house is very small and there aren't many great places for us to put his full size crate in. The other issue with keeping him out of the room is that he'll scratch at our door incessantly and scratch the paint off. Basically, what I've done twice in the last week, is take him into our living room,which we have baby gated, and made him settle down in there with me. I slept on the couch while he ended up on the floor or on his couch (funny how that happens - LOL). Once he settles he's fine for the night. It's just weird behavior out of the blue for him. Hoping it's temporary!

This is kind of a weird question but have you checked under your bed to make sure there is nothing down there that shouldn't be that he is trying to get to? Maybe something he could have carried under there?
Snow had a period where she was obsessed with going under my sons crib..it ended up being her favorite toy was stuck under there and she couldn't figure out how to get it back. She would literally cry and whine to get to his room. Lol

One option (as always), is upping the amount of time he spends expending energy, via play, dog park, exercise, long walks etc. Adolescence is upon you now, creating new issues that need creative solutions. It's all a part of the fun

There are some electrical wires and a cable wire that run across our headboard along the wall. He has shown some interest in chewing them so we've had to push large underbed sized rubbermaid tubs up again the wall to keep him from them. Other than that, there aren't any of his toys, just too many dustbunnies to count.

As for his exercising, that may be. He is walked at least twice per day for at least 45 minutes each walk. We also do mental exercises with him each day in 5-10 minutes intervals here and there. He goes to doggy daycare two days a week, so he gets tons of play and exercise on those days.

Despite the craziness of having a puppy, he brings us so much joy! We smile so much more than we ever did!

Under the bed sounds so familiar!!!! We also didn't want to crate at night but he destroyed under our bed. He is allowed on the bed but never sleeps there because he gets too hot. He liked under the bed because it was a small confined space... And Tamar is almost ten months now - and all the behaviors that you are seeing we have (fingers crossed) grown out of. The big change for our boy was getting home neutered. He really settled down especially at night after that.... Now if I could only stop him from scratching and trying to chew and lick his way out the door to go outside!!

I found a simple solution for this - take the bed down. We have our mattresses and box springs right on the floor - no more under the bed for Cato. We also give them an antler and they chew for about an hour, then I get off line and take it and they are in bed.
