| Lola is 10 months old about 38lbs and 22" at the withers. She is lean but not too thin. She eats rather fast and after she eats she seems hungry. She'll go outside and try to eat leaves or bugs. I'm in the process of switching her from Purina Pro Plan Puppy to TOTW Puppy. Just got the TOTW yesterday. The Purina says she should get 2 cups and the TOTW says she can have up to 3 cups. (Slowly move from one food to the new.) So we give her 1 cup of food in the morning with 2 teaspoons of yogurt and pumpkin. In the evening we put 1/2 cup of food into 2 different food puzzles to slow her down. This helps somewhat because she doesn't try to eat leaves but she'll still go rattle her bowl. We don't do puzzles in the morning because we like to supervise. That being said either way we feed her, she still seems hungry. She doesn't get many treats. We will use a small amount of kibble as training treats when we walk. Sometimes we give her a rawhide bone. Today when she seemed hungry after breakfast and she tried to eat a black eyed susan, I gave her 3 baby carrots and wiped some peanut butter on a nylabone. She was fine after that. Should I give her part of her breakfast in a frozen Kong to slow her down? I don't want to overfeed her or underfeed her. How do I tell if she is hungry or faking it? Suggestions? |

| I would think she is just seeing what she can from you. She is at the age of like an kid who is always hungry. I would keep her on the pace you are, I def recommend going away from Purina, thats a great step in the right direction. I wouldn't touch the 3 cup of food though, that seems like a lot to me, my girls get right at 2 cups a day, but each dog is different. Also, I would almost just go with regular TOTW if it was me. I know they have puppy formula's now, but b4 that, they were all life stage foods.
Best of luck, IMO i think she is testing you. |

| My dogs act like they are starving every second of every day, you get used to ignoring them after a while. If she is healthy and not too skinny I wouldn't worry. And I too think 3 cups a day of TOTW is a bit much unless your dog is working more than the average pet. 2 - 2.5 cups a day seems more reasonable. You're fine on the puppy kibble right now, but as Kevin mentioned, you'd also be fine on the adult formula as well. _________________ |

My dogs are always trying to eat what they find outside to the point I have to watch them to make sure they don't get something that is not good for them. I agree with the 2 cups a day with the bit of pumpkin and yogart you give her that sounds like enough. Mine get 2 cups a day and maybe a couple of snacks or so a day some days they get pumpkin or yogart. like Val said each dog is different. |

| I think you all are right that this is a test. 3 cups sounded like a lot to me too. I'll go with the all life stages TOTW next. She's pretty hard to ignore! We'll learn and she'll learn. I truly appreciate the input. It is awesome to have a sounding board. Thanks! Sarah
