Not eating :( Empty
PostSubject: Not eating :(   Not eating :( EmptyWed Oct 03, 2012 1:45 pm

I've noticed over the last few weeks, Bruce hasn't been eating. When I first got him, he would gobble down his food and want more. Recently, he will either just look at his food when I put it down or he will take one or two kibble and not be interested in the rest. Once in a while he does eat about half of what I put in his bowl, but most times he won't eat. When we first got him, he was on Puppy Chow and we switched him to Blue Wilderness which he loves. Our vet also told us to up his intake to 3 cups a day which we did and Bruce would eat it all and want more. Now he will just look at it or take a couple of pieces of kibble. I just hope he's not trying to starve himself or is sick or something. Or do you think he's tired of his food?

Thank you Smile

We had the same problem with Dalton not long ago, for a time we thought he was sick becuase he was really disinterested in his food. Eventually though, he would eat. We figured that he was just bored with his food (which happens after about two weeks of the same bag.) We finally started to get different flavors of food from the same brand, and that seems to help. Good luck!

How old is he? Callie went through a stage where she didn't eat because she was teething. It could be just boredom too in which case, tough love is the best way to go. Or you can occasionally add some goodies to his food. Just don't do that all the time or he won't eat unless there's something special in there for him.

Sometimes he could be just being a brat. There's been times where my chi refused to eat and the only way I could get him to eat was to hand feed him. PITA but it got something in him at least.

I'll have to try the same brand just a different flavor. See if it helps Smile thanks!

He just turned 4 months and he is still teething. I did put a couple if his favorite little treats and mixed it in just to see if it would help and he ate some but left half of it. At least I know he's not sick Smile that makes me feel better.

Thanks all and hopefully he will eat soon

Teething is probably the biggest reason for not wanting to eat. Once he is done with that he'll more then likely regain his appetite.

You can try adding a little water to his food to soften it up so he'll be more likely to eat it during teething.

what are you feeding him for treats? sometimes if the treats are "too good" stuborn furbutts will hold out for somthing better. Dakota will not eat his dinner untill we have completly cleared the dinner table and put away the leftovers... He's waiting to see if he can have some of what we were having. lol

I'll try water in it too. Thanks!

For treats he just gets the training treats from Blue Buffalo and Zuke's since he is still learning basic commands and in training class. Sometimes when I leave I will give him a nylabone to chew on when he goes into his crate. I don't give him too many treats, and I use them sparingly when I do train him so he doesn't always expect a treat. Funny thing is, is he is quite picky with the treats he gets as well. Sometimes he will refuse to eat a treat lol. I never eat my food around him and use a gate to separate us when I eat so he won't ever learn to beg.
