I can't speak for the toads specifically in your area, but most likely the worst you will see is some foaming at the mouth. If you're really concerned, you can call your nearest emergency vet and they'll be able to tell you based on the various species of toads there. We had to do that the first week we had Ghost and she chewed up a mushroom in the back yard. We have *tons* of toads here, and Ghost tries to eat them constantly. We've never had an issue, so hopefully you guys won't either.

We have tons of toads and frogs in our backyard. Juneau chases them all of the time! Meredith is right, they will foam at the mouth.

Most poisonous toads/frogs live in the Amazon. I don't know if there are many in the states. I could be wrong though.

Thank goodness that we don't have any toads, but I know two people who have had issues. One guys dog was poisoned and passed away Sad and a friend of mines mothers dog almost died too, but they saved her.

Most toads are actually poisonous, such as the American Toad. But for the most part it just makes you a little itchy. It can be a medical problem in small dogs if it eats the frog (or has it in its mouth for a long time) but as blueeyedghost said above, you'd probably just have some foaming at the mouth. Your dogs aren't puppies (guessing based on sig) and it didn't eat the frog so you are probably fine. If they didn't have any reaction immediately prior, they should be ok. You can always call your vet and ask their opinion, that's what I would do. And take them in if they are acting weird.

Both my pups go after toads/frogs all the time! I get a lot of them trapped in my small backyard/patio area and I always know when they see one because they will play with it! Nikko has picked a few up in his mouth before but I've been able to get him to drop them. He never had any side effects.

One gross thing happened the other day though...we were walking and came across a flattened toad on the road, and we walked by and I thought nothing of it, until I looked over and saw Yukon chewing on it! I wanted to throw up!!! By the time I tried getting him to drop it he swallowed it. I was waiting for the vomit/diarrhea but he was fine.

We have a fair amount of toads/frogs in our area. Thankfully Aevyn's either too stupid or too slow to catch them. It's reassuring to know that if he ever does manage we won't need to worry too much.

I live in Southern Ohio, and my Kota loves anything that moves, so needless to say we have an issue with toads and frogs as well. I have never noticed her foaming at the mouth or anything like that, but typically she'll have a spell of some diarrhea, but nothing serious. I worry about it though, because we just let her out back since our yard is husky proof (fingers crossed) and I really wouldn't know how many she ate. Lucky for us we dont have to many that I see since we dont have any bodies of water around but occasionally Kota still finds one.
