Does anyone have experience of their Husky losing her fur after giving birth? My girl had a litter of 5 pups on June 12, and her fur is now very thin and straw-like to the touch, and it looks like she's shed most of her undercoat. I've done my research and talked to the vet and they say its normal. Just wondering when it should be grown back? And will it be the same as it was before? She did lose some weight after breast-feeding and all, but its being put back on. Her fur looks better than it did when she first started blowing coat, but still not the same as it was before, and of course, she is otherwise in prefect health. Any advice appreciated, thanks

It is common for females to look pretty ratty after having puppies. I don't know exactly how long it will take to grow back, but within a year at least. Probably as quickly as she'd grow hair back after a normal coat blow. _________________ -Sara

I believe it takes a few months for the coat to come back in full, but it could be longer depending on the dog. She is probably going to be "naked" for a little while. But yes, its pretty darn normal.

I know I saw my labs Mama and boy did she look bad, I felt sorry for her. Her coat was dull and splotchy. I have a picture of her about 5 months later and her coat is as beautiful as my Rubys!

Halli did the same after he first litter of pups, she lost a lot of weight after having the pups and it was hard to get her to gain weight while breast feeding. When she had the pups she blew her coat and her hair felt very rough and straw like also, it is very normal, she grew her hair back in a few months, and within a few months her fur was back to normal. i would not worry about it too much, just keep an eye on her and make sure she is eating properly, if anything doesn't look right consult your vet. We added Raw eggs and liquid fish oil to Hallis food which helped with her coat. We then put them all on a RAW diet a few months later. I hope that helps

Thanks everyone Her fur is getting softer now, still a lot to grow back. But at least I can be sure that it will in time

When we rescued Snow it was the day after her last pup was adopted. Her coat was in terrible shape and it looked like she was missing half of it. It took us a good 5-6 months before her coat looked like a husky. It takes time, and a good quality food definitely helps too!
