Running with a 7 month old? Empty
PostSubject: Running with a 7 month old?   Running with a 7 month old? EmptyTue Sep 04, 2012 12:10 am

Prior to adopting my dog I read online that once a dog was 6 months old they were good to go for running on hard surfaces. However, after reading on here a bit more I see that I should maybe wait a little longer?

The tricky thing though is that I'm not entirely sure that she is actually 7 months old. I adopted her from the humane society and they had guessed 7 months, but I think she's probably a bit older. She still acts like a puppy in every possible way, but I don't think she had much, if any, training, before I got her.

Thoughts? I'd love to continue running with her, but can wait if It could hurting her.

Thanks!

I'm along the lines of better safe than sorry. Run her around at dog parks and in your yard, and wait a 2-3 more months to start running her on pavement. Plus, I'd imagine it's pretty close to the same temperature there as it is down here (I'm just outside Pensacola), so everyone will be more comfortable running when it cools off a bit Cool

You're right. I should definitely wait. Getting her tired is going to be interesting for the next few months...haha. I'll definitely need to make the training sessions a little more intense...

And how long should I follow the 5 minute/month rule for walks? Until she's closer to a year?
