| Welcome! It might take a bit of time and management to adjust the dog to children. My guy still doesn't handle shrieking very well, so I try to avoid that. But it's easy for me since we don't have kids, just nieces/nephews and what not. |

| Jbealer~ He was only 2 yrs old on Dec 6th. Its actually a very long story and it's also very sad.. On dec 22nd we noticed he didnt feel well, just though maybe he ate something that upset his stomach. The 23rd and 24th h was throwing up so we had to wait til Monday after christmas to get him b/c he wasnt getting any better. They found nothing.. Blood work and evrythng was perfect. They thought maybe he ate something also that upset him and told us to let it pass. Gave him an intestinal antibiotic and got him on an IV to hydrate him. We picked him up that night and he came home and was looking better. He got better over the next couple of days and NYE we came home and he had started throwing up again. We gothim back to the vet a few days later and he was getting worse. He had not eaten since the 22nd except what the vet got him to eat. Barely drinking water. They did xrays found nothing. had to bring him back in he next morning to run more tests to check for blockage found nothing again.. Thy then thought it was addisons disease and started treating him for that, plus rocky mountain spotted fever and whip worm. Our Jax was dying so he vet was trying anything to keep him alive while we were trying to figure it. They started him on a anti inflamitory medicine for addisons disease and they thought he was getting better so they told us we could pick him up. We were so excited to bring him home and he just went right back to his corner and curled up. He did this for 3 weeks now. Vet called in the morning and we said he wasn't better. He said bring him in now and we did and he decided it was time to cut him open and see if something was in there. He found two pieces of sharp plastic and removed the first one and the second one was stuck to some string that went up into his esophagus. He could not get up there so he cut the strings ( which happened to be dental floss) The floss had lasarated him from his intestines trying to remove it for 3 weeks so he sewed all those up. The vet came back and told us to prepare for the worst b/c he had a pc stuck in his esophagus that he couldnt get out. This was on a saturday. Sunday he called with good news and said since he cut the string that was attaching the obe in his belly to the one in the esophagus he was able to throw up the pieces stuck in his throat and all the floss. He said we could pick him up the next day if he was still infection free. Well they came in Monday and he had passed away. The piece in his throat cut him and he bleed internally. It breaks my heart so bad! It was terrible on us and we are stil healing. The plastice was a toothpaste tube he ate from the trash and he ate floss from the trash also. We brought him him and buried him!
Lesson learned we are buying thrash cans with lids for all the bathrooms. He left us to soon and he was perfect.... |

| Oh, Jaxy. I am SO sorry for your loss! I am so glad you have found Rodney. My husband & I lost our three, (2 huskies & a shephard/collie mix), in a span of 13 months. Our female, Tia and the Shep/mix, Kessie were from old age, but our Leo was a mystery. He was our first loss, March 2008. We came home from work to find him just laying there on the kitchen floor, dead. Tommy had found him as a stray years before, so did not know his true age. Guessed him to be about 11 or so. We lost our last of the Original Three Amigos in April, 2009. Anyway, we found the only way to cope was to adopt! We have rescued 3 more huskies, the last, Mika, last November. The new ones can NEVER replace the ones lost, but they find their own spot in our hearts. There are just too many abandoned/stray/mistreated dogs out there, and as much as we were hurting, felt it would only be selfish to keep all the love we had inside for our Leo, Tia & Kessie bottled up. I am glad you also thought this way and brought home your Rodney. All the best to you & your family. |

| Yes people couldn't believe we wanted to adopt so fast , but you know huskies and they have so much love to give and talkers and they are people dogs... We wanted to another fast to fill the house with huskyness again :-)... Now we are wanting another one for Rodney. I never wanted a second one until I lost Jax now I want two. I will always adopt now after seeing how many are out there that need homes. Plus have three kids I just don't have the time nor patience for puppies... |

| oh what a sad story, im so sorry for your sudden loss. we keep an eye on them and eating things and thankfully they are not big trash eaters unless there is chicken or eggs in there. Sierra is the paper towl and toy eater and it worries me every day when i find something she ate. i hope Rodney brings you many years of happness. _________________ |

| I would say it never goes away. That sliver of sadness will always be there, but it's up to us to keep it in check and make room for more memories. |

| Good luck on finding a friend for Rodney! It's great that they seem to integrate with other huskies so easily (normally). Be careful, tho.....after you get a second one, it just gets easier to get the third! Huskiness will abound! Also, there was a website I visited often beginning after we lost Leo. www.petloss.com. It is a forum for those who have lost their beloved pets. I found great comfort there. Take a look, if you feel so inclined. If not, there is always here, and we are always willing to listen..... |
