| Hi, What a nice site! My name is Cathleen, and here is our story... We adopted our Husky Dante from the local Humane Society about 3 months ago after my 24 year old son and his roommates adopted his sister. They were both found wandering around a farm and were very attached to each other. My son called me and begged us to adopt the male so the pair would still see each other. We had always had dogs, but they had passed away a few years ago. My husband said "absolutely not!'. I then sent him numerous e-mails with pictures of soon to be named Dante. I knew he loved dogs but was afraid to become attached again. He still resisted. I then dragged him to meet my son's new Husky Myrrah. His friends all joined my cause of trying to change his mind and agree to adopt the brother. Still he resisted, Then after 2 hours of me talking about how much fun it would be to have a dog again, suddenly he said, OK, I will take off work tomorrow and pick him up from the Humane Society. YAY! Well, hundreds of dollars in treats, toys, food, etc. (that my husband, who did not want a dog, went to Pet Smart and purchased) later, Dante arrived! The Humane Society was thrilled because they said he cried all night after his sister left, which was the main reason I wanted to adopt him, I could not bear the thought of this poor grieving dog! He has completely taken over our house! He is so much fun! And our once clean house is now a hairy mess, LOL My only concern is that he has barked at my 4 year old grandson. I am a bit worried. We built a pen in the yard to separate them when he visits. Any suggestions? |

| Hi Cathleen welcome to the forum..
Your story about having to talk you husband into getting the dog sounds kind of like mine before we got our first husky Blaze. after a few months with him I started feeling like we need a friend for him so I then start trying to talk my Husband into the second one. Well as you can see from my Sig and Avator we now have two huskies. |

| Welcome! That's quite a story, and we'd all love to see pictures of Myrrah and Dante _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Maybe he has not been around young children. I would just really watch the interactions and keep them separated for a bit, just until he has a chance to settle in, and you can get a better chance to evaluate his personality. |

| Congratulations and thanks for adopting!
Where in NY are you? I'm outside of Clifton Park.
As for your grandson, I say the more exposure the better. Don't isolate them. Keep Dante leashed while he is there and teach him the proper way to interact with your grandson. Isolating him won't accomplish anything. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| We live in Orange County, NY which is about 65 miles from New York City. It seems like a lot of you have more than one husky, I would love to have 2 but we have a small house and Dante has pretty much taken over! All of your dogs are so pretty, there seems to be a lot of variation in color, all beautiful! Dante has one blue eye and one 1/2 blue 1/2 brown eye. Thanks for the welcome! |

| I used to live in Orange county New York about 27 years ago small world.
I think the advice Tori gave you on the grandson is probably the best my 4 year old g-son getting along with my dogs and the dogs get along with him. |
