| I don't know if you guys remember, but back in May a friend of mine had a pregnant stray husky come in and have pups behind her house. (I posted a video of the momma and the pups here). 2 months later the owner who lived up the road from her came and claimed her and the pups, which turned out to have been sired by her great dane! Ugh. Today, momma husky showed back up at my friends house and here's a picture of what she looks like now: This makes me sick. I am calling the humane society on the "owner" because she has at least 5 other unaltered dogs in her home and another momma dog. I can only imagine the shape they are in. =( This breaks my heart.

| She's at my friend's house, but I begged my friend not to let her go back there and that if she didn't want to keep her because of the drama, that I would take her and foster her until we could get her into a rescue. |

| clearly she's not capable of taking care of dogs. I agree with kevin, you should hold the dog. That is the most skinniest husky I've ever seen. I can only image what happen to those puppies :'( |

| Holding back on my anger at the moment.
Good gosh I hope she wasn't there long enough to get pregnant again. If the supposed "owner" comes for her again tell him to go straight to hell. Good that your calling in this abuse.
The best you could do would foster so the other person doesn't know where she is. |

| You really should take the dog and foster her. Get her healthy and maybe she can have a better life with a forever home..
That is disgusting to see a husky looking that bad.

| Oh, the owner knows that my friend has the dog again, and that's why I offered to foster so the owner wouldn't know where she is. My friend's husband messaged her on facebook and told her (he's an idiot). Apparently she had also heard that this picture had been posted on my friend's facebook, so she sent my friend a message and called her a "a 'f@*#ing tree hugger who can lick her great dane's balls." Real mature there. |

| I wonder if you can get them for anything in the line of animal cruelty where you live? there is a huge difference between tree hunger and simple animal compassion. That dog deserves far better than what she is getting and its sad to think how bad the others they have are. |

| We are looking into that. We live in a very rural area, but I have a friend who works with our local shelters and rescues checking into it for me.
ETA: Apparently the Animal Control Officer for our county is the owners grandfather. Looks like not much is going to be done through them. =(

| Instead of calling animal control, couldn't you call the cops? Seriously, this is sick. What kind of person is this?! She should be ashamed of herself!
For the people that abuse/starve/neglect animals, I wish we could return the favor back to them. Their attitude would turn around so fast, you'd think they were a different person.
You're doing a good thing. This situation sounds pretty bad. Keep the Husky, buy some satin balls, and foster her. |

| Wow. Like others I can't express my anger and disgust at "people" like this. Hopefully you'll find the dog a good home far away from the situation. As I type this I wish we had space as we'd love to give her a good home. But training a new puppy is all we can handle at the moment. |

| I'm getting shivers down my spine looking at that poor girl. Hopefully that (expletive) will get what's coming to her.
I'm wondering if you can register a complaint with the Animal Control anyway - something where you could have a paper trail going so that when you do go to the cops, you can be like, "I tried to register a complaint...".
Also see if you can get in touch with a husky/dog rescue group or something - they'll be better suited to advocate on your behalf. |

| That is disgusting to a new level, that poor dog. I bet the owner is not that skinny, how can you sit there and feed yourself while something 100% dependent on you is starving, I would tell the lady, "Sure I'll give her back but first animal care and control are coming to investigate". That is animal cruelty... |

| If the animal control officer is this woman's grandfather or whatever then your right he won't do anything. That said surely he reports to someone and I am positive he doesn't sign his own paycheck. At the very least I would try going over his head. I also like the suggestion about getting help from neighboring areas. Maybe if you take that poor dog somewhere out of your area the poor baby won't end up back in this hell.
Keep us posted and good luck! |

| Notify the local media and also start a facebook page with this picture and other evidence - get it circulated around like that lady who was shoving her fingers in her huskies butts to make them poop and beating them. If local AC won't take control, take matters into your own hands. Hopefully you're in a different county so her grandfather won't try to take it out on your dogs. |

| Luckily I am in a different county than Joanna and the "owner." Joanna is keeping her safe for now. I will be taking her in either later tonight or tomorrow, as soon as I get a place fixed for her. My girls are still having dominance issues among themselves, so I don't want to add her into that mix and make it more stressful on her. She's got to be separated. By the way, what are satin balls? I've never heard of those.
You guys just don't even understand the area we live in. I live in rural Kentucky and most of the people in my area are prime candidates for "typical KY redneck idiots." Just to give you an idea of what we are dealing with in regards to the cops and the animal control here can check this out, but be warned, it's not for the faint of heart.
So my friend who works with the rescue organizations and shelters, Danielle, heard about a property that was abandoned that had neglected/abandoned animals on it. She went out to the property and took pictures. Here's a facebook album of the pictures she took.
She contacted animal control (the owner of this husky's grandfather) and he blew her off. Then she contacted the media. Here's the news story that was done on it. Nothing has been done about it. Not by the cops or animal control. So many people called animal control to complain that animal control had their number changed. Disgusting. =(

| I believe Satin balls are used for put weight on dogs. Here is a link to a recipe.
http://www.holisticdog.org/Nutrition/Satinballs/satinballs.html
I believe you can find other recipes by googleing Satin balls.
Maybe Metama Christina will logon and give you some help on satin balls.
She used them for Isis a rescue she saved.

| Yes, our rescue used satin balls with great success. It's basically a whole day's calories in one ball. We feed one ball a day in addition to their regular food. You don't want to overwhelm them with too many calories at once. Good luck! |
