So, before we headed for AZ Friday, I took the kids to daycare and decided to have the groomer their deshed him (but asked for an undercoat rake to me used/to avoid burns/tears/etc) since his coat was so bad my car would have been white if I waited for my best friend here to do it like I was waiting with Rogue.
These people completely destroyed Koda's coat. His front for the most part is okay, but his hair on his legs and butt is DESTROYED. He has pretty much wings on his legs, his butt fur is flat and looks choppy (if you ever look at his photos or him in person, he has always been very rounded at the back and super fluffy), and I am pretty devastated.
I emailed the place asking if they cut his hair because it seriously looks like a cut went scissor crazy with it.

Hi Heather,

I spoke with the groomer that DeShedded Koda, and he was not trimmed. We also didn't use the Furminator "rake" on him. We used the undercoat tools as requested. Koda was brushed out for quite some time actually; with bathing and brush out, our groomer spent 5 hours on him, and ensuring sensitive skin/brush burn was not an issue. I apologize if you don't like the way he looks. I will ask our groomer not to spend as much time brushing him out during his future visits. Sorry about that.

Firstly, 5 hours? I've done grooming, my best friend is a groomer, and it does NOT take 5 hours... if you were to work straight through maybe 60-90 minutes, if you allowed airdry/did a dog inbetween maybe 2 1/2 hours max. And you should really ONLY brush a dog for about 45 minutes or else they begin to strip the hair- which I am guessing is what happened to Koda. They tell me that they didn't use the furminator but there's no way an undercoat rake ripped out around 1 1/2 - 2 inches of hair off his butt and spots on his legs... uhg. Koda has always have a VERY pretty coat and so I am super pissed about this.


Has anyone had a really bad deshed/groom happen to their dog and their fur come back normally? Anything to help? I seriously will be devastated if his legs and bottom don't go back to normal, especially his butt fur- it looks so mangy I'll add pictures from Jarod's phone when he gets home. I requested a refund for the groom and told them they need to teach their groomer how to not rip hair out. When we picked him up, they said, "well, he won't stop shedding is that ok?" And I looked at them like they had 4 arms because they thought it would end...

Without seeing Koda IRL I noticed his butt looked off in one of the pics you posted (before you posted anything.) I seriously don't know what they did but IMO it looks scissored.

That really sucks and I hope they gave you back your money with that attitude of theirs. I'm interested in seeing what his coat looks like now!

Oh Heather! That sucks, We had a little issue with Delilah when I took her to a new groomer. We moved to a different city and needed a new place - it was horrible. Her "furry butt chaps" As I so lovingly call them, we destroyed. It was rough and short, nothing like I have ever seen and her undercoat was a mess all over. It was the first time her hair felt coarse. I still don't know what they did, even though I instructed them not to use a furminator (I'm sure they did, assholes), but I demanded my money back and ever since then I do it myself.

It will grow back fine, Delilah's coat is back to normal, but she looked like a ditz brain until it grew back in. Just brush Koda out and try to be patiet.

Just thank the lord they didn't shave him.

That sucks. Five hours is way too long to be brushing him for. I've never had anything like that, but we have had to have Ghost shaved in various spots for medical reasons, and it takes ages to grow back. In some cases, six months. But that is from completely shaved, and it looks really obvious because his fur is barred (if each hair is the same colour all along then it doesn't look so bad). But from being scissored it should start to look better quite quickly - even if it takes a while to be perfect again, it will only need to grow a bit to look much less obvious. It will go back to normal, it will just take time, like growing out a bad haircut. I hope you get your money back.

It's crazy! I mean, FIVE hours to groom? Honestly, it should have been maybe 10-15 mins of prebrushing, bathe and let conditioner sit for 10-15, zoom groom, rinse, HVD for 30-ish mins, brush for another 20-30ish, and HVD the loose hairs from brushing. I don't know what they thought a deshed entailed. They say it isn't scissored or buzzed, but honestly there is NO way he wasn't- even if they stripped his hair it wouldn't be so short and choppy. It's mostly his legs and his butt is terrible, but my best friend noticed his belly looks pretty messed up too.

Poor Koda! That's how Delilah looked too. It's terrible. We just tried to brush out as much as we could to give room for new growth and get the coarse hair out. It really pissed me off.

Koda is VERY sensitive about his butt being touched around it, lol, so I can imagine he was pissed as hell if they were screwing around with the fur back there that long! The manager swears up and done ALL they did was wash, brush with an undercoat rake, and blow out. There's no way! It's so much worse in person too. From the side he pretty much has a straight line in the back, and he was very rounded.

They gave me a refund (they know I am nice until you disrespect me so just threw their hands up and said ok, here's a refund), but I wish they would not treat me like I am dumb and have no idea what entails in grooming my dog... 4 years my friends and this never happened before them.

My mom thinks I'm crazy from being so mad- she doesn't understand how serious it is to a husky owner to mess their coats up, lol.

i'm so glad you got your money back heather, i'm the exact same way i've worked in customer service for 8 years so i never want to be that rude b*tchy customer, but sometimes a b*tch snaps! i would probably contact the owner though about the attitude because that's one thing that is really bothersome (especially for me) because the way i see it, regardless if i'm educated on the topic or not its YOUR job to guide me and if your not confident enough in your answers how do you expect me to have confidence in the quality of service??

i've only ever had to actually go as far as complaining to a higher up once, i'm normally really quiet and to myself so i never want to cause any trouble or reinforce negativity cause i stress out easily but if that were rocky i would have definitely said something to them about their attitude, just cause if that's how they're treating me i can only imagine how they treated my dog for "5" hours.

I have actually used rakes on dogs for 4 hours(Huskies or German shepherds) and NEVER had them look choppy, if anything it looked like I did not even make a dent lol, I agree with you, they probably thought cutting his hair would save some time, realized it was a mistake and brushed him so long to try and cover it up(Very hard to evenly trim a dog who is shedding so heavily trust me Iv been requested to do so). I hope your babies hair grows back soon!! The next time you take him to a groomer make sure they know how to "Properly" groom a husky, most people do not realize scissors/buzzers should NEVER be taken to there coats =-(.
