Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Puppy doesn't know when to stop playing with older dog! Empty
PostSubject: Puppy doesn't know when to stop playing with older dog!   Puppy doesn't know when to stop playing with older dog! EmptyWed Aug 22, 2012 5:59 pm

Hello everyone! We have a 4 month old husky puppy, a 11 year old border collie, and a 11 year old husky. Our puppy LOVES to play and jump up at the other dogs. The collie and puppy could play for hours, however our older husky only wants to play for a little bit and be done. Our puppy does not take any cues from the older dog that he is done playing and continues to jump up and nibble/bite at his neck to play. Our older husky has nipped at him a few times to indicate that he is done. The only way we can get him to stop wanting to play with the older husky is to stand vigil by the older husky and tell our puppy that he is done, or to remove the older husky from that section of the house.

We are at our wits end on how to work on this problem. Lil one is being walked and exercised regularly. He is doing great on his training (stubborn as always but great!) and listens to pretty much everything else we tell him to do. But he cannot seem to get this done sitiation down.

Aaaaaaany suggestions are welcomed!!

well i would suggest a time out for your puppy, removing the older husky is not telling the younger one he is doing something wrong, you need to REMOVE the problem child from the room for him to start to understand the first time you tell him no with picking on the older husky is the only time you will remind him to stop, if he does not in the crate or time out corner (yes you can teach time out!) he goes.

I have to agree with Jennifer as well. We had a similar problem with my parents Pekingese and after the first time we removed him from the room, it made a HUGE difference and has been more mindful now.

Agreed. Puppy needs time out. Asia goes majorly overboard with Kody and the playing. He even tries to hide under the table from her sometimes. He LOVES playing with her, but she's seriously nonstop! She's 10 months...he's about to be 2 years old. She doesn't play that with my 6 year old female because she WILL put her in her place.
