| Hello There I know there is a huge amount on raw feeding on here already but after reading some of it I just wanted to clarify...If I feed Bear on a mix of: *Beef chunks *Liver chunks *Tripe chunks *Chicken quarters *Heart chunks *Tinned fish such as mackeral Will this satisfy his nutritional needs sufficiently? I would feed the heart and beef as 50% of his meals, liver as 10% and the rest as is. Thanks |

| In short, no that will not be sufficient. You need more than one source of organ, liver alone will not be enough for long term health. I would also offer other sources of protein as well as other parts. Although when you say "beef chunks" we have no idea what part of the animal you are referring to. The more varied the diet the better. While using beef and chicken as your base is fine, don't limit the diet to only those proteins. Try adding in turkey, pork, venison or rabbit, etc in there occasionally. _________________ |

| Though is forum and this thread is forever old, I will always like Linds' post on the old, old forum about BARF and think it has some great examples of what to feed and everything. Worth the OP reading, hopefully linking to this is okay: http://huskylove.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=barf&action=display&thread=1299

| Hmmm I may have to think about feeding a high quality kibble then as I am not sure I can afford the amount when you add in things such as venison, rabbit, etc as over here in the UK it seems to be pretty expensive. I would rather he had the nutrients he needs obviously as I want him to be healthy...maybe I can just give him meat on the bone every so often for his teeth. Thank-you for your input |

| You don't have to feed expensive meats such as rabbit or venison. I think it's pretty much just make sure to not stay with the same protein source always and make sure you are feeding both white and red meat. It's okay to try to adjust it to what is easy on the pocket. Pork is usually pretty cheap and you can find amazing sales on chicken usually. Beef ribs, beef marrow bones, ox tails, and whatnot usually go on sale for a good price too. You just have to be alert of when certain proteins are on sale, stock up, and freeze them until the time is right. Most people primarily feed turkey, chicken, beef, pork, and lamb (when on sale). If you have an asian market in your area, you can actually find some of the less common protein sources for pretty cheap- like duck. You can usually find whole rabbits there for a good price too, but I can't handle whole rabbits, I cry, lol. You can also always locate local butchers or hunters and see if they have any parts from deer, elk, etc that is freezer burnt not is not necessarily a part a human would want. Last year I got about 70lbs of venison for $80 from a girl I met who hunts.
There's a lot of companies that are affordable as well (small companies, not places like Primal or NV). Most states have a raw production group that can help you on where to purchase from. |

| Ok well I will look in to this...we do not have an asian market anywhere near here as I live in a remote area of Cumbria. I think the nearest will be at least 2 hours away but I will have a look. Hunting I may be able to find some but I am not sure it will be as popular here as the US, I think google is the way forward on that one.
Wish me luck lol |

| I wish some of the UK raw feeders from back in the old days where on this forum. We had a lot of raw feeders among them. Good luck on your search. But honestly, grocery stores do have great sales on chicken, pork, and beef all the time so keep an eye out for those ads. |

| Check out dogaware.com - they have a great listing of Co-Ops. Also search facebook groups. That is how I found my first connections with raw. We feed a variety, but our staples are Turkey, Chicken (for Cato), Duck and Beef. I have various mixes and bulk meats. This week is a turkey and duck week. Next week might be beef and chicken. Just depends. In October, our Co - Op gets over 1000lbs of donated venison. We only pay .50/lb and its donated to an area rescue Look into options. You should be able to find some. |

| Definitely do some digging around, there are a LOT of raw feeders in the UK. There is another husky forum that is still very active with a predominately UK presence which contains a lot of raw feeders. Considering how many there are they must know of some good ways to get a variety of different meats for a decent amount of money. As as Heather pointed out, you do not have to feed the most expensive meats. My point was to get other protein sources in your dogs diet besides just beef and chicken. My dogs live primarily on chicken, turkey, pork, beef, and lamb. _________________ |
