7 1/2 week old feeding Empty
PostSubject: 7 1/2 week old feeding   7 1/2 week old feeding EmptySun Aug 12, 2012 6:06 pm

Hello all,

I just picked up a 7 1/2 week old puppy and I am wondering how much I should feed him per day? Nikko is 8 1/2 months and I give him 1 cup 2x per day plus treats,. but I think that would be too much for a small pup. My new one is very little, I'd guess he is about 5-10lbs. I don't want to underfeed him.

I didn't get Nikko until he was closer to 10 weeks, and he was a big boy at 18lbs at that age, plus I had his feeding all wrong when I started with him.

Thanks!

You're actually going to wind up feeding him more per day than Nikko, because since he's growing he needs more nutrition. It really depends on what food you're feeding and each individual dog on specific amounts, when I first got Ghost at 10 weeks we were feeding I think 2.5-3 cups of Blue Wilderness per day. The big thing with the little puppies though is you want to feed them multiple times per day. We were feeding Ghost 4 times per day for the first 6 weeks or so. Good luck!

The breeder had him on Puppy Chow, but I am not keeping him on that. Nikko eats Wellness for puppy and I am in the process of switching Yukon over on that.

When I got Nikko I fed him 3x per day, 6am/12pm/6pm but I think I overfed him because he had the runs for the first few months until I got his feeding right.

I've only had Yukon for 2 days and I am giving him 1 cup mix twice per day like Nikko. The breeder also said to let them self feed, which I do not like either because I feel it is harder to potty train if they are eating throughout the day.

I might go ahead and feed the new pup 3x per day and see how that works.

Do not self feed - It's not reliable and husky have a tendency to gorge themselves. I really strongly recommend 1c. 3x a day - it was great for our male and he looks very fit and trim and never had diarrhea issues.
