| Hey all, Here's my situation. We have a 6 month old female and a 2 year old female. They've gotten along fine before the spay and would lay on the floor together, play fine, etc. No signs of aggression toward one another, aside from the first week of having Emma. Since they've sorted out pack position, there's been nothing... Until.... Both were spayed almost 2 weeks ago (it'll be 2 weeks on Monday). Since then, my 6 month old has recovered well and bounced back to her old self within a day. However, my 2 year old has been whiny, snippy and just plain old MEAN. Her incision looks well and she doesn't show any signs of outward pain. She's not aggressive toward us, but she's becoming increasingly mean towards our pup. If Harley (6 mths) comes in her general direction, she snaps at her. After this happened twice earlier today, I made up my mind to call the vet on Monday. When this occurred, we separated both dogs and put Emma (2 yrs) in her crate. However, just about 15 minutes ago, Harley went in her own crate and Emma ran out of hers, into Harleys, and started attacking Harley. We again separated them, confined Emma into her crate and made up our minds not to let them out together at the same time until we can figure out what to do.
Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't want my girls fighting... I just want Emma to be her old loveable self again... Help! |

| It's only been two weeks since she got her spay - that's not that long for a 2 year old female. It's pretty invasive surgery and she very well could be in pain. Pups seem to bounce back a bit easier. Give her more time. |

| I agree with Megan. Most dogs are defensive when hurt. They think another dog or animal will hurt them more. She will bounce back.when maggie broke her leg she was separate from buddy my mom in laws english bulldog because she didn't want him near her, for about that amount of time. I don't really remember when maggie got spayed she was the only dog so it wasn't an issue. |
