1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Training for Showing Empty
PostSubject: Training for Showing   Training for Showing EmptyMon Aug 13, 2012 5:29 am

Hello guys,

I am hoping to show my husky Bear and whilst I had started I put it off for a while, I have now re-started and he seems to be doing well. The thing is I am new to this and do not know right from wrong...I was hoping you could give me some pointers as to whats right?

The biggest problem seems to be he just wont stand still when he is around other dogs, he just wants to play. He is 7 months old now. Also if I enter a show, what is required grooming and presentation wise?

Thank you in advance Very Happy

Sara will be able to help you on this topic, but my suggestion is to go to your local AKC shows and talk with people who show there for some mentoring and observe the dogs in the show ring. Goes without saying, though, that your dog can't be overstimulated and going crazy in the ring because other dogs are near.

Training for exhibiting begins and is constant starting at the breeders home.

Find out where your local kennel club is and speak to them - they should have handling classes that are pretty good to attend to get your dog used to being around other dogs in the ring and being examined and approached by strangers. Your breeder where you got him from Should also be able (and more than willing) to help you out as they should be the first person you go to for mentoring when considering exhibiting a dog as they know their lines best. Attend lots of shows and take notes. Talk with other breeders but the breeder you got the dog from should be your main source for mentoring and learning.

Have you spoken with your breeder about exhibiting your dog?
