| Thanks to a friend on Facebook, I became the adoptive parent to a sweet 5-year-old male Siberian Husky named Buddy last Saturday. His owner went in the hospital and wasn't expected to come out, so his sister was trying to find a home for Buddy. He is so sweet and loveable. The sister suspects there was some abuse going on but could not confirm.
Bud seems to be adjusting well and loves his new adoptive family. I'm new to dogs--I've always had cats and have one spoiled rotten 9-year-old calico who hasn't warmed up to Bud yet.
Although he's a pure bred, neutered, and with his shots, the sister has not yet produced them. Would a "double dose" of shots hurt Bud if I took him to the vet anyway?? I must register him in Virginia, but I need to certify he's had his rabies shot before I can do that.
Any tips anyone can offer would be appreciated. Looking forward to meeting other Husky lovers! |

| Well since you've always had cats you'll do just fine with huskies. They're a lot like cats. -They don't listen very well -You can't trust them to come back unless they're on a leash -Huskies own YOU... you don't own huskies.
As for the question regarding shots I'd start another thread in the Medical Issues sub forum.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on the pup! _________________ Posts made by me are not associated or approved by itsahuskything.com. | Honestly the best person to ask would be your Vet. I know for humans that a double immunization usually wont hurt if its been a year. (I'm a nurse) But dogs biology is diferent, so I would ask a vet. i don't know if they can do titer's or not. |

| Based on my own experience, a second vaccination did no harm. Of course I also asked my vet about it. Since Sioux was definitely vaccinated, then animal control got him one day without tags. He was vaccinated again on the spot and we were charged the fee before we could take him home. |

| Thanks for the info! I'm hoping to get in to see the vet next week and get a clean bill of health for Buddy :-) Do huskies eat very little?? Seems he has no problem eating Milkbone treats (when he obeys) or the cat food, but won't touch his own. We had to leave the house for about 6 hours today, and I was really concerned about leaving him alone so soon. LOL--he didn't poop anywhere in the house, but he did steal a biscuit my husband had on the counter and hid it in the couch cushion. I guess this breed hords food, too?!! Is it normal for them to go a few days without pooping? He pees just fine outside, but I'm concerned about the #2...or do they do #2 in relation to the amount of food they eat? I'll be getting some pics posted shortly |

| Hi there and welcome! I agree-- post in the nutrition forum about food and you'll get more responses... But in short- huskies are really picky eaters. You may be feeding something that Bud just doesn't like. It took us 3-4 dog foods before we found one that Koda liked and agreed with him. If he's not eating reguarly, his not pooping doesn't surprise me. Browse the nutrition and health forums for some more answers!
