1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Training vest, what do you think? Empty
PostSubject: Training vest, what do you think?   Training vest, what do you think? EmptyFri Aug 03, 2012 2:15 pm

So Luna is 15 weeks and has started to get pretty mouthy (her teeth/gums are bleeding so I assume she's losing them and they're sore). But we have started bringing her out into public more and it seems no one teaches their children (or they themselves) to ask to pet a dog. Which brings us back to mouthy, she sometimes nibbles fingers because she is so excited. If people ask and don't rush over to her I can get her to sit and be calm but if they run right over and pet her, I can't calm her. So I was thinking of getting a vest like the service dogs have either saying "I'm training, please don't pet me" or "ask to pet" or something. In this sue happy world I don't want someone to interpret her nibbles as something else. Do you guys think this would be a good idea or would it give people the wrong idea?

I have exactly the same issue wth Rufus who is 4 months old. He jumps and wants to play, and is also obsessed with dangly thing like kids always seems to have, necklaces, toys, hair things etc. You hear all these legal battles going on for dogs around the world I am terrified of him nipping a child. Even though (in my mind) the parents should have taught the child to ask first.

The other day I was down the off leash dog park and someone decided to bring 4 small children in there so I clipped Rufus back onto me. There first question was 'Is he vicious then?' Nope I said, he just doesn't really understand the difference between puppies and small children, so I am holding onto him until you get your children safely out of here. They looked at me like I was the crazy one. The thing is you just know it would have been my fault if anything had happened to the kids.

I also thought about getting a vest, but getting it to read ATTACK DOG IN TRAINING - should keep people away then lol!

Yes, unfortunately I believe you are right! And even with all the warning it would still be my/Rufus' fault!
