| Hello! I have a 4 month old male who weighs about 20 pounds. I was reading the back of his puppy food bag and it said to feed 1 cup - 2 1/4 cups of food. How many cups should I be feeding him each meal and how often should I be feeding him a day? I just want to make sure he isn't being underfed or over fed. Thank you |

| I would break it up three meals if possible for him. i would do 3/4 cup each meal, but just depends on alot of variables like what food do you have him on and what he looks like build wise.
Some more info like brand of food you have him one
Exercise routine
Treats?
this will help someone out on here with your question. Good luck |

| At that age Balon got 1 cup three times a day, he was on Nutro Ultra at that time, he is 5 1/2 months now and he gets 1 1/4 cups twice a day of Blue Wilderness. |

| I think we would all love to help! I broke hours down to Kcal/cup and how many Calories Cato needed at that age - once you mention the food it will be easier! |

| Ok! Thank you all I am feeding him Blue Wilderness. He runs around the yard for a little while before plopping down and rolling in the grass and I take him on one or two short walks (about 10-15 mins until he's tired or wants to go back inside) and play with him inside with a lot of chewy toys so he gets tired out before going to his crate at night. For treats, I am training him basic commands and I use a couple of Blue Wilderness chewy or crunchy treats broken up to get more use out of the treats I have, and I will give him a bit of a treat when he goes into his crate at night, since he is still learning to go there at night. Thanks again |

| Oh he is also a pretty sturdy little guy. He's 20 pounds and looks to be about a medium build, almost a bigger build. |

| At that age, I fed 3 cups a day to Cato of Blue Wilderness or Acana. It was spread in 3 Feedings.
I would suggest you start at 2.5 cups a day, 3/4 morning - 1 lunch - 3/4 evening. If he seems well fed then don't worry, but if he is like Cato, you may need to add more. I wouldn't add more than a 1/4 cup every few days, so you don't overwhelm his tummy. If you do choose to feed 3 cups, try to gradually add the extra 3/4 c. over 10 days. IMO, that would provide you with adequate time to adjust.
Otherwise, I think you are doing well. Where are you from (I apologize if posted elsewhere) |

I was thinking of feeding him raw but is it too early to start him on raw? Thank you again everyone for all the help and info |

Really? Freya must be a little pig wig. She eats her 2 cups that she gets in the mornings in about 15-20 minutes. |

| LoL Like I said, he gets a lot of "rewards" throughout the day if he potties out side, if he comes when called if he "Goes and lays down" so I think all the snacks fill him up, it literally takes him all day to eat two cups of food, but like i said he has a habit of stealing the other dogs food too lol. |

| I'm constantly onto my kids, put your scraps in the bin because Freya will eat them. She gets an upset tummy when she eats the wrong foods, but that doesnt stop her lol.

| Oh Thunder will have diarrhea for 48 hours if he eats table food, and having a 4 1/2 month old puppy who is not 100% housebroke with diarrhea sucks lol. |

| I'm hearing ya. Freya gets diarrhea at the drop of a hat. She ate something - Still dont know what it could have been. And she had the runs for 4 days. It was aweful. I was going to going to take her to the vet when it cleared itself up - Thank goodness.
My pup is 4 and a half months as well, and although she is soooo much better with her potty training, it seems that every time she gets diarrhea it's hindering her progress. |

| Mine is really just with the urinating in the house, he can literally go outside, release his bladder go in and pee 10 min later.....He knows not to poop indoors though... He also knows he is not suppose to do it because he runs and hides under the table every time he does. |

| Freya is getting heaps better than what she used to be. Before she would give no warning WHAT SO EVER and just walk along and pee. . It was so frustrating. Not she rarely has accidents inside, nad if she does it's my own fault for not letting her out as regularly as I should.
When she has diarrhea it's a different story. She cant seem to control when it's going to happen. it just does and she looks at me with the saddest look, almost of humiliation.
he tells me she wants to go by scraping at the back door. |
