I have 4 males now while fostering Max. I actually have found our past female fosters to be a bit on the bitchy side. If hubby changes his mind Max would be a great playmate, he has tons of energy. It's been hard to keep him sedate to recover from his neuter.

He still needs a home. He's learning to live with bigger dogs. He's had a few issues getting along but making improvement every day. Some issues were probably due to recovery from neuter. One more week and we can get him groomed. He really is a sweetheart. Great in the car and we've taken him to two different crowded (people) social events and he's done great. He really is a good dog, minds well, just very high energy and an escape artist.
We boarded him at the vet while at work Monday - Wednesday and on Wed. he escape from a 5ft cinder block lined pen with a solid glass door front. The vet tech had no idea how he got out. I've decided on $100 adoption fee which is half of what I've spent so far.

He'll easily clear 3ft from a standing position.

Understand. If you have any questions about Max let me know. We are going to leave him alone in the house next week with our boys since he's mastered the dog door. A real test of his behavior. Neutering will probably help calm him some once the testosterone leaves his system in 2 to 3 weeks.
So I got an application from a potential adopter for Max. She's a 23 year old college student studying to be a CNA. She has 2 roommates and lives in an apartment. She's very athletic and outdoorsy. Her parents live here in town and will provide temporary housing when needed. Mostly Max will have company either her or her roommates 24/7.
My concern is of course apartment life. It's more about owner commitment than exercise for Max as we all know a yard doesn't equate to exercise. Is she committed to taking the dog out on a leash in all kinds of weather and at weird times of day. I called the complex and they allow dogs. I plan on a home visit and offered a trial period of a week.
The huskies I've placed in apartments, I interviewed them a little more on what their activities are like when they are not working or in school. I also interviewed the roommates as to what kind of activites they are involved in.
If she says things like she hikes often, or runs for exercise, I would then ask, do you run/hike throughout the year or does she go to the gym in inclement weather? What activites/exercise does she do during winter months? I think that'll tell you if she's committed in exercising the husky in any weather.

Thanks Claudia, I plan to meet with her and her roommates on Friday and I will ask her those questions. She mentioned in an email she's a daily jogger but that doesn't work here with any consistency from late May to October due to the heat unless it's very early morning.
Other than that she seems like a good fit. Since Max can escape most fences being indoors might not be all bad.

Good luck!
I tried to get those answers without making it obvious as to what I was looking for. As it turns out, one of the apartment adoptions I did, and she was a first time husky owner, walked her husky up and down the apartment complex stairs when it was raining out! Now that was creative!

Basically her support system for the weekends backed out. She works 12 shifts on most weekends.
Max has another home visit and pending adoption. The home has husky experience but they also have two 8yo female mixes, so we'll see. Paws crossed for Max.
"Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you become a fierce defender of the ways in which your little one is perfectly ordinary — all the things he or she can do that are just like what everybody else does. And yet, you never lose sight of how absolutely extraordinary that very ordinariness is, how difficult, remarkable and rewarding that fight to be 'just like everybody else' has been."
