Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. | Whenever saya sees me laying down on the floor she comes and starts licking me, I cant resist so I start dying of laughter. Sometimes she takes playful nips tt me. Well one of those playful nips actually drew a bit of blood from the top of my ear.(I cleaned it with alcohol) Well my question is qhy do some dogs love to lick peoples faces and ears, and sometimes nip at them? |

I'm not sure, my thought would be the nipping happens when they get too excited. Mine does that too and it drives me nuts

I believe it's a form of showing affection. Thane loves to lick my whole face and sometimes get's a little to excited and nibbles a bit. I do the whole loud high pitch "ouch/yelp" and then he apologize by licking where he nibbled XD

Balon at over 5 months still does this when excited. When he is let out of his crate in the am he goes nuts running around "talking" and then always jumps in my lap and licks me sometimes nipping my chin lol. I always say "ow" really loud and he immediately stops.

Kale nips at my face sometimes when we wrestle on the floor. I think he forgets that I'm not a dog lol. A simple reminder usually does the trick; say no, stop play, and make him sit and calm down for a few minutes. Afterward he seems to play more gentle.

Its either affection or play. Luka's allowed to bite me when we are play fighting, I try and be rough as possible, just how he likes it!! He will bite my hands endlessly, arms, anywhere really but when it comes to my face he's never done so. He knows when I tell him to stop that I've had enough and he isn't mouthy with anyone else. If he hurts me, its obvious from my reaction, and then the ears go down and he will lick me to say sorry

I agree affection or play . . . if you watch dogs interact they often lick each others faces as a sign of caring and affection. Saphire does the same to me and my daughter but won't do it to anyone else.
