| So we finally picked up Ragnar today, those that read my introduction know that I was less than diligent in my search for a reputable breeder. He was anxious the whole ride home but a great pup for a 3 hour drive with no car sickness, just laid in my fiance's lap for the whole trip. When we reached home I immediately put him in the yard to let him urinate (which he did) but then he cowered with his tail between his legs. After we got him inside he ran to the corner and basically pressed himself as far into it as possible. I've tried to give him some water and food but he want's nothing of it...or nothing to do with us. I've never seen a puppy act this frightened, I'm scared that he was being neglected or abused and is now very afraid of human contact. I'm trying to allow his as much space as possible so that he can become comfortable with his surroundings and his new home.
Has anyone else experienced this extreme anxiety from a husky pup? |

| Cato was anxious and slept a lot when we first got him. He was scared of everything the first night, literally. And of course, being the neurotic husky-mom that I am, I freaked out about every little thing. hahaha. Don't worry if he is breathing rapidly when he is sleeping, apparently it's completely normal. I freaked out and had to call the E Vet to ask. |

| When I went to meet Loki he was a bit afraid and was hiding underneath the breeder's kitchen table. It didn't take him long too warm up to us. |

| It's normal just takes a bit to adjust sometimes, Thane hid between the crate and couch and ended up falling asleep there. He warmed up the next day. |

| Thanks for the replies. Ragnar's been here a couple days now and is still very frightened and anxious acting but we'll just keep trying to acclimate him. I've been taking him out on the leash every couple hours and he's been doing pretty good, only a few accidents. Nights are when the real fun begins, he's a howler for sure...it's pretty cute but I will be picking up some earplugs for myself and the family, haha.
The "breeders" were feeding him Purina One so I picked up a bag and also a bag of TOTW Pacific and have been starting with the 75% old, 25% new routine. He's not a big eater right now but I'm sure that will change as he becomes more comfortable with us.
I know, "worthless without pictures"...I'll try to upload some very soon. |
