A couple questions about Bode:

1. I've tried to start brushing him with a rake, but he is having none of it! He will not stand still an keep trying to bite the rake. Any tips for easing him into grooming?

2. He's been itching quite a bit in specific spots, mostly his back leg and one side if his neck. I haven't been able to see any evidence of fleas, but it's so tough with all his fur! I just started him on Frontline yesterday. The itching isn't constant or very vigorous. How can I tell if it's fleas, and if not that, what else could it be?

As for the brushing . . . The biting might just be because he thinks you are trying to play. Just keep working on it a little at a time. As he gets used to it the biting may stop.

As for the itching . . . Husky's have very sensitive skin. Even on a flea and tick prevention regimine Saphire still scratches sometimes. Some scratching is normal for dogs. But watch for things like the skin being red or hot to the touch or loosing fur. If this happens see a vet asap. My parents have a dog that has a skin condition (not sure what it is called, sorry) that causes "hot spots" that itch, are hot to the touch, cause fur loss and become terribly painful. The vet gave them a cream to put on to sooth the skin that works like magic.

I used to brush Kale when he was sleepy or sleeping when he was little. Puppies can't sit still long enough for grooming. Kale would get frusterated that he couldn't explore and play and bite the comb lol as he got older he became more tolerant of grooming, but it was gradual. I still brush him when he's drowsy lol he doesn't put up much of a fuss and lets me manuver his body to get to sensitive areas

Juneau doesn't like being brushed either. She just wants to play! I agree, brushing while drowsy works best.

She scratches her legs and neck too, but I believe it's just from being dry. She's in the AC all day. She is on essential oil flea preventatives!
