| At what age does the pups permanent eye color set in? I was looking at a litter, some pups had a deep blue, some already had brown, is this indicative of what color their eyes are gonna be? The pups were about 6weeks of age when i last looked. Also does the deep blue often develop into the brighter colored "ice" look? Or does it turn into a deeper blue. This is my pup 7weeks old! Will he keep his blue eyes?

| I would think by his age they will stay blue. As for changing as he ages, blue eyes are generally a deeper blue in puppyhood and very graduallly lighten as he/she ages eventually turning almost white in adulthood. But the change is very gradual, over the process of years. My boy has blue eyes, he's almost 7 years old and they are almost white now (been that way for years). So I found it funny when a stranger came up to me one day and said "My husky looks just like yours, except mine has blue eyes." Of course hers was still young and brighter blue. _________________ |

| From most of the research I have done on this fact it seems that by 6 weeks most pups eyes will stay the same. Now when I say that it doesn't mean that bluer eyes won't go icy blue, because they can. Balon's eyes were a deeper blue and then right around 8 - 9 weeks they started going to a lighter icy blue like his Mom's. They actually have a lot of white in them too. Most pups have blue eyes at some point after birth, but they usually start turning at about the 4 week mark. So if they appear muddy that eye or eyes will probably be brown, or perhaps green.
Even my lab was born with a bluish tint to her eyes, when we picked her up they had that weird grayish "souless" appearance. Of course they turned to the beautiful golden brown that she has now as a Chocolate Lab should.
Eye color has always fascinated me for some reason.
Good luck with them staying blue if that is what you wish! |
