What kind of leash does everyone use? I've always used just a plain Nylon 6 ft leash, but now I'm starting to have issues with it. Miss Nicky keeps chewing through them! I thought by purchasing a thicker nylon it would be more difficult for her to chew through, but she proved me wrong. She only chews it in the car, which makes it more difficult to catch her in the act. Does anyone have a good strong leash they could recommend?

Pardon my stating the obvious, but why not just remove the lead while she's in the car? My sibe used to chew up his collar and harness. I had to remove them if I couldn't watch him and catch him in the act, eventually he stopped on his own.

Perhaps you can use a chain lead if you must leave one attached in the car.

I thought about just taking it off in the car, but the only problem is that with her being so young she jumps all over and when I keep the leash on her I can grab her easier and calm her down. That's why I wanted a strong durable leash, I guess I can give the chain leash a try just during the car.

I'd 2nd Val's advice. Mishka ate 2-3 harnesses before it just finally clicked that I NEEDED to take them off immediately when we got home or in the car. It's a phase, they grow out of it.

You could crat her in the car or start using a seatbelt harness for her, would come in handy when she is older.

You can probably get it cheaper on amazon. Anyways, you see that little "control grip" rubber thing (bone shaped)? Well, you can move it along the 6 foot leash. I moved mine way down to the bottom (where Juneau likes to chew on HER leash). So instead of chewing on the leash, she chews on the rubber part! It's actually a "control grip" so you can grip the leash better with a second hand. Mine's almost chewed through. Wish I thought of it before she started chewing. Oh well. lol

Best of luck to you! Also, try keeping a chew toy or something while you drive so she's occupied. Juneau is half and half with that. Somedays she'll chew on her toy, somedays she'll try to sit in my lap. -.-

I have to remove Asia's leash while in the car. She's eaten through two of them already! She tried eating through the Ruff Wear Knot-a-Leash, but I caught her before she was able to do any damage.

They're pretty sturdy, but I'm sure if given enough time she can chew through it.

I would recommend a Lupine Leash and Collar. They have a lifetime guarantee, even if it gets chewed. I don't take my dogs leashes off usually, but they don't chew. To be safe we have Lupine leads and they are really durable.

I wish my car were big enough to fit a crate in it. I'm looking into buying a SUV soon, so I can crate them while I drive.

This might sound crazy but I use horse leads. Its stronger than a dog leash. It works better too. Maggie gets her leashes taken off in the car too. She will chew them as well. The thing about horse leads is it would take her forever to chew through one.

yep Lupine is the best, they are the only collars I will buy. Guaranteed even if chewed! I love them!
