Forum Rules | 1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| Today my best friend's daughter had her hand on Snow's head and I think she was pushing it to get her to eat. I told her not to do that but as she did Snow sorta growled at her :/ Then Snow had a chew treat and Hannah just wanted to pet her and she barked really loud at her for it. How do I correct this? Should I not since I know a growl is a warning and should never be corrected... She isn't like this with adults. I can take anything out of her mouth and she doesn't growl or anything. |

| In all honesty I was taught as a child to never touch a dog while they're eating or have something in their mouth...
Kids are unstable and jerky as well as just don't pay a whole hell of a lot of attention to what they're doing. Asking a young puppy to exercise self control and tolerance to such a thing is an awful lot... I would either not have bones/toys/food out when kids are around or not have them interact with snow. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | The only thing I have found that Balon is possessive of is those dental chews (kinda like rawhide), not to humans, just against Ruby the lab lol. I can take it from him, but if Ruby walks by he gets super nasty lol. |

| well from personal exp having 6 kids here, I had to train axel, but the KIDS too, they know when any dog is eating, leave them alone, but axel and roxy know now that they are bigger the kids are smaller, like puppies, and must be nice. |

| We have dealt with horrible resource guarding with Delilah. That being said, she will not guard with me or the hubby, she will still guard with Cato.
I wouldn't let the kids be near Snow when eating. I learned a very valuable lesson from this forum when I was dealing with resource guarding - If you give it to her, you let her finish it. It's a gift and it shouldn't be taken away. I think that every time I give the dogs something. |
